I have recently purchased a 292 6 and wanted to use it in my 52, but I don't know how to go about it because the mounts are different, the guy I got it from had it in a 63 nova and clipped it and is now getting ready to swap a v8, could I just use his clip? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
63 Nova clip absolutely will NOT come close to working on your Chevy. If you have the stock frame. That is a stamped sheet metal piece with built in spring towers. The 12 Bolt Tom mounts won't do you any good as you don't have a frame with mounts for a V8 already and as I said the nova stuff won't work. I just bought mounts to put a 292 in my pickup from Chassis engineering inc that use a pad on a bracket on the frame rail and are real simple Problem is that the company sold to Heidts after the owner passed away and they are in the process of moving the production facilities. http://www.chassisengineeringinc.com/chevy-parts/ The mount comes off the side of the block similar to this one on a 250 does and uses a motor mount biscuit like Ford Flatheads use. The left side mount for the 292 is offset to match the passenger side and keep the mounts straight across. If you haven't checked the right side mount pad on the block is about three inches in front of the left side pad. On the 292 the fuel pump is behind the mount rather than in front of it. Here is a link for some made for your stock frame and stock suspension. Solves a lot of problems especially if you are just starting out doing engine swaps. These are a bit spendy but Davis builds some nice stuff. this is everything you would need for mounts Ebay item Put this in the ebay search 222097737378
Thank you! I've read that it's possible to use an s10 rear end but there's a difference between models and size? And that they are pretty much a bolt in.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You want a rear end that's about 60 inches outside of drum to outside of drum; the 4 X 4 Blazer/S-10 is the rearend you need. The 55-57 Chevrolet are almost a bolt in only requiring redrilling of the spring pad locator hole 1-1/2" forward, and 1/2" inward on each side. Tri-Five shock mount plate and U-bolts also work well. Since you're using a later six, and not a V-8, the firewall supports don't have to be cut, and you retain your parking brake. Sent you a P.M. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
How would I go about moving the rad forward? Is there enough room that I won't have to mess with the grill? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Does the 4x4 drive s10 rear bolt right in or is there fabbing to do? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
^^^^Almost anything, other than a Tri-Five or some of the late 60's/early 70's Camaros/Novas, will need to have the spring mounts added/moved/re-drilled. There's enough room in front of the radiator support to scoot the radiator forward, or you may get by just by adding an electric pusher fan. Do a search here on the HAMB; there are hundreds of threads on the Stovebolt Chevrolet's. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
Dude, piece of advice: You have about 10-posts. They appear to be all questions about one of the most popular models to modify that you will find on this board. They all have been answered, in every way that they can be, numerous times. Eight years ago, I had not worked on a single one of these. Now, I have worked up 14. Want to know how I figured it out? Right here, on this board.
55/57 rear axles are somewhat hard to find now but as 56 Sedan Delivery said in post 10 that was the rear axle of choice back in the 60's and 70's when swapping a later enginem trans and rear into one of those cars was pretty common. I've never owned one that got the rear axle swap but in the 60's and 60's helped guys with a number of them. That S 10 4x4 rear has pretty much replaced the tri 5 Chevy rear for that swap. In my truck on the 250 that is in it now I shortened the shaft on the water pump a bit and ran a shorter top pulley. That gave me minimal radiator clearance for a flat fan but it worked for 100k miles. I think I have a short pump V8 Chev pulley on mine but the pulley came out of my pulley box and was one that worked. On some you can gain about a half inch or so by sliding the radiator flanges down inside the core support and run the bolts in from the back and put nuts and washers on from the front. Moving it much further takes other mods though. Shortening the water pump shaft running the shorter pulley and then running an electric pusher fan if you don't have decent fan clearance is probably the simple no mess way out. I am not a big fan of pusher fans but this time around I think my truck is getting one with the 292 going in it.
4X4 s10 rear diff needs perches moved 55-57 rear end bolt in with minimal mods 67-69 camaro is a bolt in 2nd Gen camaro minimal mods You can move the rad forward to gain space You can cut the stiffening ribs off the fire wall and move it back You can use a shorter water pump and a v8 pump pulley Look on eBay for mount kits etc a few guys selling them Ooooor the search function works also These cars are great easy to modify and make things work
I planned on using a th350 as the tranny, could I use the crossmember mount from a 67-69 Camaro or is the a specific adapter I would have to use? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You could try to adapt the Camaro cm if possible or just make one yourself out of heavy C channel or box tubing. I doubt anything would be a bolt in.
