I am currently looking at 2, 1932 Ford Roadsters , can't make up my mind which way to go both are very nice built cars. But completely different. Keep In Mind I live In Canada where roadster driving is limited.

Both cars are around the same price range .

    1. Recently completed Brook Ville Body, Nice Frame, Nice Interior, Nice Chev Drive Line.
Needs Paint, No Top. Bad Exhaust system, Trunk Bare. High Boy No Hood. Or Fenders.

    2. F.G. Dearborn Deuce Style, High Boy, No Fenders, Full Steel Hood & Radshell, nice upholstery interior and trunk, Nice Drive Line, Power side windows. Heat & A.C. Black Cloth Top. Needs nothing but a new owner.

Should there be a price gap between the 2 cars?

Both are equally quality built cars.

Hard call! The practicality of the fibergl*** car has a lot of appeal if you want to drive something often in an environment that is sometimes less than perfect, but like many here I would prefer the steel car. In my opinion if you ever decided to turn the car loose at some point you would probably have less trouble selling the steel car.

Hmmm, windows, heater, top...Canada. If you are buying it to drive and enjoy I think it is obvious.

Yes, I want to drive it, not sit and look at in the garage The comforts it offers is not making it easy for me. I know the steel car is more desireable but also will need more money spent on it.

A steel bodied car that looks like a Henry Ford body will always bring more than a fibergl*** car with some different shapes and panels. If you care about the resale, the steel car is the correct answer. It's obvious even now since the gl*** car is more complete and still the same price as the unfinished steel car.

You won't have any problem getting your money back on a Dearborn body gl*** car they are desirable all weather roadsters.

  10. If you have to ask,
Then you should get the finished one (Dearborn) and just enjoy it.
Don't spend too much money on it and when you want something different you probably won't get hurt.

If it ain't steel it ain't real..............just saying, the steel Brookville roadsters is the obvious answer..............and by the way there is no need for all that street rod **** on this forum, heat, A/C power windows..........yuck!

So where does all this talk about fibergl*** bodies relate to this thread?

Denny, the OP wonders which is worth more, the Brookville car or the FG Dearborn car?

The when completed (repop) steel car may be worth (a bit?) more than the gl*** one, but seeing that the steel one isn't painted, all things being equal, I'd expect it to be considerably cheaper than the gl*** car. There's a bum for every seat. Mileage may vary.
How soon do you want to be behind the wheel? How many summers do you have left.

DDD: FG Dearborn deuce - admittedly a bit cryptic

I know I don't get out as much as I used to but isn't the Dearborn roadster a STEEL body.
Not that fibergl*** is a bad thing.
OK, now I see the OP said F.G. I still thought they were steel, huh!

......................I think what he meant was Dearborn Deuce style. I ***ume with the flip up lid to house the fold down top. Can't quite remember the manufacturer.:)........Pictures would help with his inquiry.

    What's the price of enjoyment?
Can you finish the Brookville car before driving season next Spring?
If so it's the better deal.
If not the Dearborn one gets you cruisin' soon as you can get out there.

A hundred years from now, when they thaw me from my cryogenic beauty sleep, I will awake to find the planet being ruled by damn filthy apes and this debate still raging over whether polymer or alloy hover craft are better. I hate the smell of soylent green in the morning.

That is part of the problem, both cars are with in a couple of hundred dollars , the Brookville being more expensive , but requiring more funds to complete it.

If you are buying it to drive, it's a no branier to me, buy the most complete car if it doesn't need a lot of work to make it into something you like the looks of. Sounds like the gl*** car is ready to go with heat and a top, which in your area is a necessity.

I can't believe the "steel is real" is even mentioned here. IT'S 100% AFTERMARKET STEEL, IT'S NOT A FORD ANYMORE THAN THE FIBERGL*** CAR IS!!!!!! Get over it!

So many here say to buy steel if you want your money back when you sell it. I don't buy/build cars to sell, I do it for my personal entertainment and enjoyment. Selling them doesn't enter the picture for me at all. If you are planning to flip it in a few months, that may enter the picture.

Buy the one that "speaks" to you and ONLY you, ignore everyone else. Screw 'em! The only person that needs to be happy with the purchase is you. You are the only one that counts. Do what is going to put a grin on your face the longest period of time.

Maybe you should be looking at a closed car so you can enjoy a longer season.

It's all to easy to be confused! The 'Dearborn Deuce' with the clamshell folding top and wind up windows was made of steel (and still is being made but I might be wrong on that) and started early 2000's (? again, could be wrong) but they then licenced the design (and name it would appear) to Downs (? again) who also marketed their gl***fibre version as 'Dearborn'.

I have a closed car my "Avatar."

  29. The 'Dearborn Deuce' has it's body modified enough for the hidden top and roll-up windows that it doesn't quite look like a genuine roadster; close, but not quite. With that said and given where you live, it may be the better choice. I talked to guy who has one at a show, and he loves his, saying that being able to go 'weather-tight' in the occasionally crummy PNW conditions greatly increased his enjoyment of the car. YMMV.....
