Just in case you 40 lovers have not been following Tom Davidson's coverage of the 2018 GNRS here are some great shot's of Tony Millers Convertible and one shot of one of my favorite 39's (owner unknown to me).

 

The tail dragger stance and skirts lasted till up in the 50s here in GA and I still like it. Not too crazy about the sun visor though.

 

Couple of pics from today's adventure.

Finished up the swap from my worn out 283 to a fresh .060 over 350, went outside the shop to see the coupe covered with snow, decided to "test drive" the stake truck home, the roads were covered with ice. An exciting 23 mile drive!

If we drove ours here in Northern Michigan, it would be covered with salt!

Yeah, there were a few stretches where the salt trucks had been. I believe that this snow caught the transportation departments by surprise, as it was just supposed to be light flurrys, and usually just blows off the road. They weren't planning for icy conditions.

 

You know, back in the 40s&50s when so many roads in the South were dirt if you got off the main roads, the cars got shook to pieces in a few years.
There was little if any use of road salts, even up North, and "brining" was unheard of, so the best used cars came from up North, as rust wasn't the problem it became later.
The newspaper ads for used cars in the Atlanta area would often list cars as "clean Northern car", and there even was ine lot that was named "Northern Car Co.".
Nowadays salt is used down here a lot also, but a lot more roads are paved. And today's new cars, OT here, are claiming to be better protected against road salt. But since I'm seldom up North, I really am unsure if their efforts have been successful.
All I know is that I stay off the roads with my hot rods till after a good rain when we have had enough snow for the roads to get salted.

 

We seem to be kind of low on pictures on this thread lately so I did a little browsing in my files and found a few to post. This coupe was seen in Puyallup Wa. back in 2006. Some may notice that it is very similar to my coupe that was not finished for another 10 years after these photos were taken. Although this is not the car that inspired me to build mine the way I did I can say that it definitely certainly made me want to get going on the project.

My coupe will someday get a set of these hub caps . I saw this coupe around the Northwest for a few years after I took these photos but I have not seen it lately. The fit and finish on the car was outstanding.

 

I’m getting the itch for those standard painted headlight rings.

I went to Oz in 2016 and hooked up with some local Hot Rodders. One of them owned these two beuts, The 38 had a 351 Cleveland in it, and the Delivery had been a push car at Bonneville before being deported... Nice cars and nice people

Here's one of mine from last October's Primary's CC Reliability Run and Car Show. It rained on us a little about the time everybody was getting back. It felt good.

This coupe is for sale@ 65K on the Pews Place site today.Pretty nice car! Priced out of range for a lot of us but it sure is nice to look at!

Love these cars, love the posts, but if I had a dollar for every black '40 with red steel wheels I've seen... I'd have enough money to have Squeeg's Kustoms build me two Jerry Moreland sedans from scratch. That sorta thing drives me crazy.

Wasn't this a Hot Rod cover car a few years ago? I think I have a copy of it around here somewhere.Definitely has the old school Hot rod look.

Agreed. Skill and taste don't always come in the same package. Your project was tastefully designed and skillfully built. Many customized 40's have not shared the fate of your convertible as they have strayed too far from original lines of what has to be one of Fords best designs.

I will concede that your '40 is beautiful. Well done! You've preserved the cl***ic lines.
I mainly am irked by the quad headlights, Cadillac rear fender extensions etc.

 

A HRM 2001 cover car. The excellent feature article, ***led Rod Van Winkle, was penned by Gray Baskerville! The deluxe coupe, Rip Van Winkle, and Gray Baskerville are all cl***ics!
