This shouldn't even be a question. The 64 Merc with the fastback roofline is one of the most gorgeous cars ever built. The T Bird is lame by comparison. I have been looking for a good Merc like that for years, but they only seem to surface when I am broke. And, even broke, I can do anything needed with a 9", so you can too!

Did a mechanical restoration on a Merc convertible . Easy car to work on. It gets my vote, also looks way better. 2012-01-12 22.47.10.jpg

  7. Story of my life a day late and a dollar short!!

Sold my fleetline project on Tuesday, called up the merc owner Wednesday and the car sold !!!!!

Back to looking, but at least now I have cash in hand to go see it ASAP !

The fleetline took a bit longer to sell then I thought. Story of my life !

Merc. Sorry you missed it. I’ve been obsessed with ‘64s since I was a kid. My grandpa used to walk his dog in the woods where there was a vandalized ‘64 390 4sp Marauder Park Lane in an abandoned garage. It was pink with white guts. That thing was so cool.

Sorry you missed the Merc. Did you at least find out what it sold for?

  15. Yeah sold for 5,
There might be hope as the guy put a deposit and said he would be back in a week....., slight but maybe his wife won’t let him have it ! ;)

    Looking at a 53 caddilac series 62
And a bunch of t-birds 61-64 have popped up. Not really grabbing me right now so I’m waiting and looking.

Found a couple nice rides here on the HAMB classifieds
Not sure the rigamaroll to get one shipped up to Canada.

I’ve never been without something in the garage so this feels weird.... like not wearing underware....... I don’t feel secure and supported ! Lol

I'd go for the Merc for sure... And immediately lose the hideous stereo console/shifter thing. 9" rear fix would be fairly easy.

  18. Id pick the merc if it were me.

Merc. Of course, I'm prejudiced. I had one, an ultra rare "R" code. That aside, it was a very nice driving car for such a big boat. If my memory serves me correctly, it was the longest car built in 64, outdistancing even Lincolns and Cadillacs.

  22. No rigamarole, just a few extra i’s to dot and t’s to cross. Nothing to it as long as the car has a title that matches the vin. PM me if you decide to go that route.

I like the little finned fairlanes and would choose it out of the three mentioned if decent, for a decent price.
I like the post/sedan cars a little better in these but a hardtop would still be cool and may even be more likeable to most???

I own a 64 Thunderbird. 5K is too much for that car in that condition. The Montclair is the better of the two, but to be honest, I wouldn't buy either car for those prices.

Nobody else said it, why not the Merc with a 'Bird interior? Something to be aware of on all column shift Ford automatics of that era. There's some diecast in the steering column that wears away, next the safety switch is mullered up, car starts in gear. The 'Birds were really bad for this but all Ford products were prone. The repair parts are available, but just be aware. The job isn't too bad to do, takes about 3 "WTF!"s and a few other choice rumblings, but still not too bad. Good luck. The Merc was bitchin.
