Hope someone on the HAMB gets it so we can follow the rebuild. Bob

I live a few blocks from this place. Stopped by on Friday. There were quite a few tools stuffed away but weren’t for sale. I picked up a really nice old Lincoln bearing packer. That was about all I saw available other than some cheap tools here and there.
The Willy’s was worse than it looked in the pictures. Think it may have been a coast car left in salty air for many years. Just about every surface was rusted through. Where it looked solid, was just clad in body filler.

That's what i thought, from the looks of the paint it looks as if it's been repainted before and what's underneath is probably bondo,:(

  6. I looked that willys over pretty well. It's rough. The roof has a dent that collected leaves and water for so long that it had turned to swiss cheese. Probably 50 or more pea size holes. Below the windshield is completely rotted out. I could put my fist thru it. The lower A pillars where they meet the floor are gone. The rear tail pan and trunk lid are completely rotted. If it wasn't a willys coupe it would be going to the scrapper.

    That poor roof☹️
When I was looking it over. I was thinking I would have a hard time identifying what was good on it. Maybe the doors and a few interior parts. I truly hope whoever won the bid knows what they are getting.
Too bad I missed you there. Would have invited you to swing by my shop nearby.

Guess it all depends on the price, but if you had a solid Four Door, could you make a good Coupe out of it like all the 33-34 Ford Coupe saves you see here on the HAMB?

There has been at least one very nice Willy's build here that started with worse.

tarps are car killers! 10 years under a tarp parked on grass? forget about it up here that will virtually reduce a car to rubble....plastic tarps are also an environmental nightmare as they break down to tiny bits that never go away....about the only use a tarp can be is if you put it UNDER the car...that thing was probably mint 20 years ago before the tarp got it

  14. It's headed to New Jersey just over $35k was the high offer, it was a very rusty car and there was allot of filler in it (I knocked around on it). I guess with the price there's further evidence how rare it is to find these cars in un-restored but poor condition.

  15. That's false, my buddies in Portland bought it

Even if it takes a ton of metalwork to make that car whole again, even hundreds of hours by a really talented metal man, that car is awesome and well worth the work in my opinion.

Sometimes it's not about a cost analysis vs. labor hours and it doesn't really matter about how much better it could have been stored or any of that. Some of this stuff gets done purely from a passion to do it, for the sake of doing it. There's no looking back now anyway, it needs to be saved.

I saw a t-shirt that read: "When I die I hope my wife doesn't sell my stuff for what I told her I paid for it"

I would have bid on it, but they took the factory Hemi out and put that little 4-cyl in it to save gas during the 70's gas crunch! :D

Paul, seems like somebody owes you a crapload money. It's just not right selling someone else's car. I had the same situation on a slightly O/T car. A 67 Pontiac LeMans convertible. I paid for it in full, but before I was able to pick it up he sold it to someone else for more. I told him he had no right selling what didn't belong to him. I got my money back but not the"profit". I told him he owed me"all" the money but never saw it.

The actual welding of the body went pretty quick, the real time was spent fine tuning the metal work. I guess I will do a real build thread now that it’s on it’s way to getting done.
