I finally acquired a set of what I believe are 30-31 truck lights. I converted them to h4 and now trying to mount them to my shock mount bracket. The brackets are flat on top, and when I mount the lights even adjusted as far forward/down, they still aren’t aimed right. Originally the light bar was manufactured to compensate for this, to allow the latch on the bottom to function I ***ume. I’ve cut some tubing at an angle to get rolling, but this isn’t a long term solution. I’m sure I’m not the first to run into this problem, what have people done to correct this? Thank you all in advance. Ryan
Here are 2 photos (hopefully) - one of my setup with the tubing and one orig., on the light bar. Thanks again, Ryan
You need a pair of cups for the ball part off the headlight to sit in. Speedway has them, part # 910-61034 shows $9.99 a pair or something similar.
Thanks for the input. Maybe my buckets are oddball or something. Even with the cups the problem is still there (have cups from the previous lights). It’s like the slot in the bucket isn’t far enough in the front. You can see in the first photo I posted just how far the mounting stud is angled back. Cups solve the issue on top of the mount, but stud is still angled under for the nut. Probably going to machine something, thanks again for the input! Ryan
This very problem has occurred since I can remember raked Model A's! (1953, Igniters club members with Dago axles and oversize rear tires: Dagoed to get 'em low, then big baloneys out back for a better 'bite'!) Johnny Perreira's '32 sedan had a Dago axle, but then a model A rear spring out back to clear the Halibrand 'Quickie'. Deuce crossmember raised rear to 'extreme' state. Johnny heated the headlight bar and twisted it, (3 or 4 times) finally 'dropped' the bar, whilst twisting it to shine on the road...instead of in the trees...First 'dropped bar' I ever saw. '53? or '54...
On a stock model A headlight bar, the ball socket on the bar are angled forward. If they are level, then you won't the full adjustments of the lights. Sent from my SGH-T399 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thanks for the continued feedback. The buckets are unmolested and I’m a little hesitant elongating the slot BUT that may still happen. I also need to confirm that’s the only interference issue, not the fastener head. I also like the cutting up an existing bar and then possibly adapting it to my current mount. I will get some photos on the end decision. Thanks, Ryan
