Need help on choosing a power plant for my gasser. I have a 56 2dr custom line that I'm building for the Southeast Gassers. The car has to be a straight axle stick car per the rules, which I have already. I was planning on starting out in D/gas which carries a 10lb per cubic in rule. I have 3 engines in my shop ready to run but trying to figure out which way to go. I have a 410 merc with a decent size cam and edelbrock rpm intake and headers. With the fe and iron head weight breaks I would have to weigh 3845. I have a 460 pretty well built, estimated 550ish hp but I'd have to weigh 4600 I have a 306 small block around 500 hp in with which I'd have to weigh 3000 7.00 would be competitive in d/gas and my 306 pushes my mustang at 2900lbs to 6.85 now. If I move to c/gas it's 8lb per ci but would need 6:50 to be competitive. I'm open for ideas and suggestions. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Just my two cents, go light because it's easier on parts. Whatever you decide, don't hesitate to reach out to any of those guys. They're a pretty great bunch!
87notch just like catdad49 said anything we can do to help just let us know. my shop phone is 828 863 1201. I'm hard to catch so leave a message, or two LOL. ~Quain Stott~
I would use the small block . Breaks fewer parts than the heavier cars will. Throw a stack injection unit on it and get some more weight off.
Gassed Wars were kind of over when the Lima motors came out...I wouldn't use the 460. The sbf is kind of ho hum and out of place in the bigger car, especially a gasser....the FE with injection would be the cats ass in that 56....IMHO. Sent from my SM-G950U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
460's are accepted by the Southeastgassers. I have a killer combo planned for a 435 inch 429. Just got afford some Kaase heads.
