    Hello,

With all of the hot rod/drag racing LPs out there in people's collections, someone must have this “Hot Rods in Action” LP album. It is number 2 in the series from the same company, (Riverside, now defunct) that made sounds from the 1959 Detroit Nationals. If the LP record is in your collection and you would like your own HD drag racing movies from my films, I would be willing to trade some original HD films for your LP sounds. Interested?

    Jnaki

PM me ASAP ! Hot rod music is plentiful and in mp3 form. These actual drag racing sounds LPs are a little less available and need to be formatted into wav. or mp3 files for posterity.

If you have the digital copies, that would be better. Someone (video transfer service, record shops, etc.) in your area can make digital copies on to a flash drive and to your computer. (CDs and DVDs are harder to get the sounds off and preserve, but can be used...) There is a program that makes digital wav. files from your record player to computer files.

One other choice: On the market is a record player that hooks up to your computer via USB. It transfers the LP sound recordings to wav. files on your computer. How simple is that?

    Jnaki,
I just bought that LP on line,
as soon as it shows I will gladly spin it on my USB turntable and send you a .wav file.
Love your movies and they are even better with your matching sounds to them!
    Thanks for your efforts!

    Paul,
Thank you for your nice comments. It is fun to match/edit the real sounds of the same racers during the same time period. I wished I could have recorded sound back in 1959, but remember the sound equipment was horrendously large or bulky. I was a teenager with a fixed lens 16mm movie camera just having fun. I will do my best to add those sounds to my "silent" drag racing films.

    Thank you,

    Junji
For those that have never seen my film clips with sound, here is one of my favorite "added sound" videos that I made a while back...
Junior Thompson, Studebaker Gas Sedan cl***, Lions Dragstrip , 1959

This car and build influenced my brother and me to build our 40 Willys coupe 671/SBC in early 1960...If our race car would sound and perform like that...we would be extremely happy. It did, in C/Gas, until...

I have a large poster of the "Golden Summer" woodie artwork that has hung on my wall (in several different dwellings) since 1980 or so. I had no idea it was from an album cover until I found a copy of this record about 6 years ago.

    Hello,

Finally, I am in the search pattern for someone that has these 2 LP albums and or digital copies. (Bakersfield Smokers and the Rods and Rails LP albums.) There are some recordings that would be of interest to me, if not for preservation of history’s sake.

LP albums degrade over time, unless they are stored in a temperature controlled room. Digital copies are stored in the cloud, on your computer, or on flash/hard drives, etc. They are preserved for a very long time. CD/DVDs are good, but they are the modern equivalent of the old LP albums. They degrade over time, in addition to the scratches upon continual play and storing away the discs. So, external hard drive, digital files preserve much better.

Whatever I am able to find and preserve (films, sounds, photos), I send to various auto museums across the country as a donation for their archives and historic displays. That way, I am giving back to something that got me started in hot rods. It also allows me to make sure that these files are stored away for the public viewing for years and years.

I have some of my own, old, LP sounds that I have added to silent drag racing films from 1959. Thanks to those that replied and contributed to the effort of getting me those valuable old drag racing sounds.

Now, I can keep do***enting those films with actual sounds from the actual racers during the time period. So, if you happen to have access to the above two albums, (bakersfield smokers and rods/rails, etc,) Please PM me, asap. We can work out some kind of trade. Thank you...

  24. I went to High School with two of the Surfaris, Jim Pash (in red sweater) and Ron Wilson (knelling). Ron was the drummer and the voice on "Wipe out". In thier bio's, all five claimed to be from Glendora but Jim and Ron were actually from Covina/Charter Oak.

  25. Hey Paul if your going to convert those drag sound records into a wav file I would like to purchase them too.......or if you want to upload to youtube I can pull them off of there also.

I just found this one at a local antique mall.
