Could you or somebody help me out with a little more info on Bowtie blocks? I have the opportunity to pickup a complete engine from an old local racer in my area and I need more info to make an informed decision. Its a complete engine that was rebuilt and never run about 15 or 20 years ago and has the cast number of 366286 on the block along with a cast bowtie on the side of the block with HD in the middle of it. I see in my book its a 350 with siamesed cylinders but I know nothing about these. I have seen 400's like these but never a 350 so I'm in the dark. The heads appear to be aftermarket but have very little on them, they are steel with a W, JE8, l-037 and a CF in a circle cast into them, they sport roller rockers along with guide plates. The engine also has a Mallory Dist with a high rise and a holley carb all new(well they were new 20 years ago). The fellow that owns this is somewhat confused about the details on the engine due to his age and the length of time that has gone by. However he says he has to have 4000.00 for it because its a "bowtie". Any help will be super! Rick
Sounds to me like an early SCCA engine from the pony wars... Although the cubic inch thing wouldn't be right... Does it still have a fly wheel on it?
I found a block #366287 that is the same as the newer P/N 1018507 Bowtie block. Four bolt mains (not splayed), siamesed walls with a max bore of 4.090" with a two piece main seal. That is a pretty old but good block.
Ryan, no it does not have a flywheel and I think its from the early 80's. I'm going to take a better look at it tommorow, I'll keep you posted! Thanks Rick
Closest # I have in my little black book is 366245 and that one says it's a 350 for a '78/'79 p***enger vehicle (malibu, camaro etc). The other numbers close to that all indicate '76 to '79. Not much help but at least it's a start, maybe?? Travis
P/N 366287 was first design bowtie heavy-duty cast iron block. Siamesed cylinder walls. Extra thick walls accomodate bores up to 4.150" Extra thick deck also. Two piece rear main seal. Replaced in late 1988 by p/n 10051183 (big-bore siamesed) and p/n 10051181 (small bore non siamesed) Both 2nd design blocks use one piece rear main seal.
