I'm having a heck of a time understanding the tail-end sweep shape on the quarter gl*** in regards to the window channel felt. The channel felt at the tail-end of the gl*** ends up getting pushed into the retainer by the gl*** when it is rolled up all the way. It looks like if the gl*** didnt have that swept out tail shape, it would be fine but it's the original gl*** shape, so obviously I'm doing something incorrectly. The gl*** is perfectly centered into the opening and cir***ference of the gl*** is seated well into the channel felt. Retainer that the channel felt is getting pushed back into: Gl*** tail-end sweep that is pushing the channel back into the above retainer: Interior view of the issue: Exterior view of the issue: The only thing I have thought of so far to rectify this is cutting the center of the gl*** felt channel out where it sits inside the retainer piece at the til of the gl***. This would allow that swept tail on the gl*** to move into that retainer as the gl*** rolls all the way up without pushing the channel back into the void. That can't be the solution though, it's hacky. Please advise. Thanks
Is this a kit for that car? The retainer has some staple holes on one side I can see. My guess is this retainer may need a felt strip glued in it. Then it's possible the original had the felt and stainless stapled on either side of the retainer. That way it looked the same all the way around. Looks to me when you put the felt channel and stainless just into the retainer and roll gl*** up the gl*** is pushing the felt strip and stainless back into the retainer.
Your last sentence is exactly what's happening. The channel kit is specific for the car, those metal retainers are original. The original felts were stapled to it on the sides but I can't recall if the original felts had the flat center "sectioned" out so the gl*** could roll up without forcing the felt channel back into the retainer void (and consequentially pulling the stainless beaded edge back out of view as well). I'm thinking it had to be sectioned originally as well and that is the solution because without a different gl*** shape, I see no other way to do it.
