Back when I was an 18 year old kid and had an almost stock "A" roadster and very little money, I had a starter go bad and the price of another was out of my reach at that time, so I bought a hand crank at a salvage yard and actually used it for awhile to crank that old "A". Tried to leave it where it could roll off if it was gonna sit overnight, but the rest of the day I used that crank.

  3. I have cranked a few over the years.
The slaughter house I worked at when I was in high school had an old John Deer that you started my pulling the flywheel. You got your hands out of the way as soon as you rolled it over, sometimes it would pop than run backward for a couple strokes.

A kid I went to high school with had a T with V-8 60 in it. He had it set up for crank, I tried it once and just didn't have enough butt to get 'em done. But he used to start it that way once in a while just because he could. Tuned up if it rolled over and fired it would start. ;)

When I was a poor college student (over 40 years ago, and I'm still poor) there was a time when the only way I could start my car was to roll it down a hill. I couldn't afford groceries, much less a battery. Sometimes it was hard to find a parking place where no car could park in front of it on the downhill side.

Think you’ll want to run a generator or just hide a small alternator? Just thinking of bits and pieces that make it go and stay going.

I found one I’m going to use that’s about the size of a large orange, just smaller than a softball for about $90

@sloppy jalopies Do a search for Suzuki alternator, it’s got a funny name like nipson denso. They were also on geo’s but I’m thinking the geos got a flat serpentine belt and the Suzuki has a v belt.

One wire internal regulator and readily avalible. They are super small and have a neat finned case similar to some mopar alternators

You left out the part where you blew the power in your garage, and undeterred started again in the morning with a big extension cord from the living room.

    Nothing’s stopping him this weekend!

Make sure to keep something over that manifold when there’s not a carb sitting on it. Last thing you need is something sneaking down there :S

Well there's been a bit more progress in the mock up area if my build. @Tim hooked me up with some 29 A seats that have really good bones. Also some 1929 head light buckets. (Still need the mounting brackets for those bad boys) the new sub rail is bolted down to the frame. So now it's time to start making a floor for it this afternoon after work. Maybe a little later on in the week I'll weld the motor mounts and cross member in and get the motor and tranny set.

Oh and I might have the best neighbor there is came home to some steel wheels I need for the A bone sitting behind my chebby! And a couple ole spoke.wheels with decent rubber for mock up[IMG][IMG][IMG]

Yeah you couldnt have gotten any luckier with your neighbor situation. Can wait to see it sitting with the nose down, the grill cut down, and the motor in the correct place
