    At first I thought a roof hatch, but on second thought one of the crew had to be a skinny contortionist and use the window!

    This is a great thread and has serious "staying" power- love all the stuff showing up on here.

    @nitrobrother researched entry to this Hotrod racer and he said it had a split just below the rear hinge that went forward to just above the pipe.

    I found a better resolution pic and that is one tight seam...perhaps it was on the passenger side only...

    Anyhow if anyone has Hotrod June 1958 we could re visit and confirm...

    Wonder how long they had to discuss the cutting of a hole in the door idea.

    I have been snooping for data on this Mighty Mopar with a Ford snout
    and found this artist captured the 1/4 miler quite nicely and answered the door question

    Quoted from the story accompanying the painting;

    "The body was channeled six inches and the drivers door was welded shut. The passenger door was cut off so it would open over those long headers."

    Motive power Quoted;

    "This painting depicts Buggs qualifying for the A/ Altered class, at the 1957 3rd Annual Nationals in Oklahoma City. He was runner-up at that event, loosing only to Carl Grimes in his Fiat altered. The car normally ran a Olds engine on Nitro, but NHRA had banned the use of that fuel. So for this race, engine builder Wayne Roberts dropped in a injected 392 Chrysler Hemi, which ran on gasoline."

    Anybody know if this thing was called a Rat Rod in 1957?

    Why?

    The****le of this artwork is;

    "When "Rat Rods" Ruled !"

    Quoted below;

    "J.E. (Buggs) Threadgill's "Rat Rod" ruled Oklahoma City in 1957. While this little 33 Plymouth coupe might have been the epitome of a Rat Rod stylistically, there was nothing Ratty about it."

    Just curious perhaps the saying is much older than****umed...

    I don't like the saying but I am reading this and it makes one curious.

    I totally agree and the artist David Carl Peters eluded that as well despite the****le so it has me asking those that were around the scene in 57 was this car referenced with others as that. You know its kinda like the F word how old is that.

    I suppose if it was it meant ruff around the edges and this was a clean well proportioned machine...
