I’m currently taking my engine apart and preparing to add a Lion Head, downdraft Stomberg 97 and exhaust header. I have a new Lion cast iron head and am wondering if I’d be better off with an Aluminum Lion? Any guidance would be appreciated. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Ed Winfield, sometimes known as the Father of Hot Rodding was supposed to have said this- Aluminum is for pots and pans, cast iron is for go!
Cast Iron will retain more heat than alum so more power..but the heavier cast iron may **** up any power advantage over the lighter alum....
I use a cast iron Lion Speed. Its the best part to help your car run with present day traffic. I use a NEW (not reground) Model B cam with electronic ignition and a stainless steel manifold with the best carburetors ever made. The NuRex timing strip allows you to use a timing light and you learn that the timing bolt in the cam hole can be waaay off. Next will be a 35/36 water pump

I live down the street from Charlie. I had a iron head on order from his last batch and changed my mind for a aluminum. The only problem is Electrolysis using it. The water jackets inside the aluminum will corrode pretty good in a summer if no precautions are taken. Zinc electrodes can be threaded in spare water holes, along with full strength antifreeze. Some say Everlast antifreeze works? Water is the culprit here. disclaimer - I have no run time on my head yet, building motor now.
