Can someone help me identify what these valve covers were off of? Here's what I know: They fit small block Chevy's and they look the same as the Chevrolet script valve covers (minus the script) Thank you!!
hmmm, maybe? Funny cause I'm building a Pontiac with a SBC and that's why I want to use as valve covers ;-)
Are they staggered bolt pattern? It's hard to tell from the pics. The lack of breather holes makes me think they're early, they might have been from a Pontiac built in Canada (they used 265/283 Chevy engines) or marine use.
They must have been made after Chevrolet changed to even spaced bolts in 1959 and before they put oil fillers and PCV valves in the late sixties. GM of Canada made blank valve covers so they could put Chevrolet or Pontiac stickers on them. Later... camera angles can be tricky but they look like evenly spaced bolts to me?
I recently sold a NOS set of those covers. They were orange and had Tonawonda decals on them. I always thought them to be truck covers, one of the decals mentioned trucks. Of course, you can decorate then to be whatever you want, probably reall fun thing to do.
I had a six in a Pontiac with stock 250 66 I think, six and no name . now have a 64 gmc was 230 stock no name . all still chevy !
Plenty of discussion here. http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=8146.0 Someone even mentions a 67 GMC truck with 327.
I see that both of your covers have the temp sender wire retention clips (spot welded). As far as I know the production engines only had those on one cover. I do recall reading that the non tabbed cover (by part number) was discontinued and replacements all had the clips.
