Hot Rods 1951 Chevy Rear Seat Help

Ok I'm stumped. Rear seats in my 51 Chevy Styleline coupe were not attached when I bought the car. Getting ready for upholstery and tried to fit back and bottom. The back hangs on the upper hooks but does not have the tabs to slip into the 2 lower slots on the trunk separator wall. The seat ends up about 8" from the floor. When I try to install the bottom it will not push all the way to the wall because of the back. I looked on thed bottom of the springs and see 2 loops in the frame work and 2 1"x1" cups recessed in the floor that I can pull out. If I push the bottom back as far as possible in about 1 1/2" from the loops dropping into the cups. Are the cups suppose to be tacked over the loops to fit in the floor pockets? If not where do the cups Go? Does the back seen right? PLEASE HELP

 

The floor had 2 tabs press welded to the floor for the backrest loops. When missing, I've used a fender washer & self tapping screw to hold it. The bottom wedges down into the backrest & plugs into the ''cups'' in the floor.

 

Thanks. So the cups stay loose in the floor or should I weld them over the loops?

 

Cups are press welded into the floor, right at the front of the riser.

 

The loops go into the floor cups, ok. It just doesn't seem like it holds the bottom from popping out. I'm use to My 60's cars that push back and the come forward and hook in.

 

one thing to consider is you may have a seat back from a fastback, which is different.

 

Cups in most of the GM body's will come out easily. I've not noted them being welded. The lazy back should hang on two are sometimes three hooks just below the package tray. My 54 has a center clip for the lower lazy back to clip in. Also has two clips on each corner of the bottom of the lazy back. With these close to where they should be you can slide the lower cushion into place. You'll have to give the cushion a knee kick are if you have the front seat moved forward you can stand in the rear floor pan. Give the lower front a kick with your foot to set it in the cups. Did this last night on the 54.

 

It seems like you have to raise up the back of the bottom seat to get the "loops to seat in the cups. And even then the loops are only about an 1" to 1.5" long. Does your bottom seat feel secure?

 

Pressure from the lazy back pushing down on the cushion wedges the cushion into the cups.
By the way the cups are in the square hole aren't they?once kicked into place the cushion should be secure.

 

I really appreciate the help. One more question. The bottom of the seat bottom is flat all the way . Is the front suppose to over hang the floor riser? That's why the loops don't seem to extend far enough to securely catch in the cups. Just not sure its the correct back seat. I'm having trouble finding correct spring frames for the 52 styleeline coupe that i can buy to make sure

 

Look at the trans torque tube hump. Almost sure the cushion needs a cut out for the hump. My 54 Tudor does. As do all the sedan tri fives I've had a part in.
