Should have started this one a few months ago, but I am fairly lazy and my lack of detail will show on this build which is why its a surfboard, chopper, dog hauler. Huge thanks to my friend Bob for all the help, tools and patience ! The transmission was pretty shot and wouldn't go into reverse. So I found a 289/ c4 auto combo for it out of a 66 mustang. It already had the disc conversion in the front and drove pretty straight. I can grind better than I can weld and have about a 2.9/10 for mechanical ap***ude so any advice or constructive info can't hurt. I bought it off a chick that was moving to Fiji for $800 it was currentyl registered and inspected and I told her if she could drive it from town..Honolulu to my shop on the Westside id buy it. Straight 6 144 L ..floor pans were obviously trashed and the wiring was ****ed & the body was pretty ****.. Removed the engine and clean up the engine bay a bit ... Threw some 15's on there to see how it looked. Then the real ****ty work started . floor pans.. I found a deal on free shipping so I ordered a set. unfortunately they didn't go far enough for toe section and not far enough back..did some poor fab work out of home depot sheet metal which was pretty thin and ****ed trying to weld without burning holes though it all the time. Rhino Lined, the interior after seam sealing Changed out the rear window seal... holy **** these are expensive and almost tore it ! My buddy Bob showed me the dish soap and rope trick to get it on and off Jeff @ Falcon Parts was awesome.. bought the engine and ****** mounts and got to work installing the engine and ****** I bought off a speed shop that they told me used to run had a mild cam. I bought new gaskets, checked the compression, plugs, and said **** it...when I was quoted 3K just to fix the original ******.. My dude Chauncey also put in many hours at the shop ! Came with a Holley double pumper but it was ****ed up so I just bought a new Edlebrock Threw in a new B&M floor shifter, because I couldn't get the oringal linkage hooked up though the steering box to the new trans.. I bought a set of Dougs Headers . super tough to get them in, pretty much had to lift the motor out .. then I bought a couple 2' exhaust pieces clamps and through two turbo mufflers on them until I can get real exhaust... My neighbors love Me !!!! So now I have to figure out suspension.. I would like to do coilers all around and radius the fenders stock car style with 15x10's.. I've seen plenty of falcons but not really any rancheros done like this only g***ers. Also need to figure out rear end .. still have the stock 7.5 " I think and stock driveline. Somehow I p***ed a Safety and she's legal to drive
GREAT SAVE ! If it took 5 lug wheels, it may have been a V8. Unless that is an export thing over there. An upper strut connecter is a good idea.
Pretty sure they just swapped it out but honestly not sure... was a standard originally guessing from the panel riveted on the tunnel and had the old ford o matic on the tree .. I did add the v8 engine brace that bolts to the motor mounts... will probably buy sway bars before the monte carlo
