I just got this car it came with a 77,000 mile '87 caprice cl***ic. It is a complete car and appears to have 37,000 miles. It has all the trim and the rear jump seats (which I guess are rare). The floors are rusted out and the p***enger side rocker. It must have sat on a damp ground for a long time. I am thinking to just put it on the caprice ch***is and not deal with all the early drive train. The car will never be worth much so I want to put as little money into it as possible. I would love to hear some ideas.
If these are the same size as a plymouth (im preety sure but no 100% they are) the caprice ch***is is way to wide. u need a older s-10 ch***is(long bed). or u can sell it to me and not deal with it. i think it would complement my 40 plymouth very nicely.
I knew it was shorter. Do you think the width is going to be a problem. Stock the wheels sit pretty far in. Thanks for the info.
yea its a big diffrence. but the wheel base is longer on the desoto then a plymouth my plymouth is 117" so you may have to use a extended cab long bed s-10 ch***is. ill find out what that is for ya real quick
s-10 extended cab 6 foot box wheel base is 123" so you could make that work. track width for the s-10 is dead on at 56.5"
I like Mia-Ki-Ki's idea, but the roof line doesn't look that bad stock! not like the big "hump on the back" '40 gm cars that are screaming for a chop like my '40 pontiac. I'd be temped to leave it be bodywise, throw on some skirts, spots, and make it drag some *** in the back.
I was thinking I could stretch the frame for the wheel base. But the fact that the caprice is wider my not look right. I guess I will have to look for an s-10.
I don't know how the fadeaways would look with that rear fender? the rear fender is a little squared off on the front and rear and it might not be a complementary shape to the front but I'd like to see the idea in photoshop if someone is up to it?
funny, I just noticed how close the grille is to my '40 pontiac, and is has 3 similar vent grilles on the sides of the hood.
For what its worth, I was looking into Fat Mans steering conversion for my 41 coupe, (Plym) uses a Cavalier rack, and whole thing with rack and all is just about $350...PlyDo has a brake conversion...seems alot easier than a whole frame swap and not too much bread.
That thing is screaming custom! It would look *****in' chopped with some full skirts and a hemi under the hood. RRR
Here's an idea... Keep the six, you'll be glad you did! Here's an interesting thread on building a killer mopar flatty: http://forum.olskoolrodz.com/showthread.php?t=22043&page=1&pp=10 Pete
