Do you remember NERF BARS??

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by oldfart, May 3, 2006.

  1. I have a 50 Stude bulletnose.I thought that I could pull the front bumper and put on some nice chrome nerf bars. But ,now I cannot find any nerf bars.Todays definition of nerf bars is the chrome step bars and crap that they put on pickups.Do you know anyone that still makes real nerf bars?e-mail modelt26@bellsouth.net

  2. Nerf bars are usually custom made for the application. The term originally comes from the bars on midget race cars. Especially the bar in front of the rear wheel on open wheel cars. Keeps you from going airborne when you get "Nerfed" on the track.

Make or have yours made from round stock. Save bandwidth by doing a search for the chrome shop you'll need to complete tham.

    Hope this helps ya…

If you're thinking about T-bar style nerfs, check out the VW parts houses... a bug "Buggy Bumper", that comes from under the front pan, could work well on a Stude as well.

I think there are a couple choices in the Pete & Jakes catalogue.

I second the VW thing. The Tbars are real cheap and simple. cip1.com is a cheap place for VW stuff.

I am running a set of nerfs on my 40 ford that I designed, made a cardboard pattern and took to a shop that made them up for me from round stock. I painted them gray and ran them painted until I painted the car, then I had the nerfs chromed. I like the look, but in an accident I don't think they would protect much sheetmetal. The name came from circle track racing, they were to nerf some one out of the way or to protect front vs. rear wheel entanglements while passing. If you want a set that looks right for your car make them yourself, don't try any stupid VW stuff.
