Blown street engines and blown race engine are two completely different beasts. Manifold pressure and blower drive twist won't be nearly as big an issue on a mild engine. And while you do need one, a blow off valve is really only good to cope with a very low rpm cough. Any more than that and somethings got to give. A backfire at big rpm and big boost, like they say "it's like setting off a bomb in a phone box with the door open"- yes some of the destructive force will go out the opening, but the rest will still be toast.

Fatbros is right on with his advice. Early on with my 6-71 set up I learned that if it was a cool day I needed to give the throttle two good pumps before attempting to start. With the cool, dense air and only one shot of gas it would backfire when started. The large plenum volume of the blower and intake manifold was too lean without the extra pump of the throttle.
It goes without saying if you do get a backfire check the blow-off gasket.
    Sorry about the thread hi-jack.

I realize this was a while ago. But what blowers do you have. I have an Eaton off of a Super coupe here. It's in good shape. Removed to install a bigger one. Make you a very good deal if you can use it.

    Thanks.

Sold my Eaton's and the 4-71's (except the garage ornament one). I was going to use an Eaton on the Falcon, but then I remember that it is a daily-driver, and just needs to go A to B, with a little style.

Have a plain old boring small rotor 6-71, to go on my 354 Hemi.
