What ****** are you guys running? What rear gears? Trying to figure out what setup to run so I can run 70-80mph. The obvious choice is an overdrive ****** but just want to know was has worked for others. Plan on taking several road trips over 300 miles and 4.10's just are not going to cut it. Clay

250 bored 60 over, Saginaw 3 speed, and a QC rear. Don't know the speed, speedos not needed on roundy round cars.

  4. 292 six, race built TH200r4, 3.73 rear. Great on the road. Will tow anything. Fairly decent mileage. 80 mph is too easy.

235, s10 t5, 55-57 rearend, 3.0ish gears. Cruises with traffic at 75, steering is a little loose at those speeds.

I have a '55 235 in my 50 Fleetline with the stock 3 speed. I run 6.79x15s and suspect that the rear end may be a 53-54 3.73 torque tube rear. I can run 65 comfortably on the highway and i know for sure that it will do the 70-80mph range without so much as a grumble. I've taken it on several 4 hour (one-way) trips. No problems. I think you're underestimating the 235.

    292 I6 w/ WC T5 ******, .63 OD. 4.57 rear. 80mph is about 2500-2600 rpm.

Get yourself a .72 OD (or better) and the 4.10 will be fine.

I'm running a 235 and when in 3rd gear i feel like i need another gear to shift into for top end. i'm pretty sure its stock trans and rear end. what is a T5 ******? what year S10 rear end is good to get.
Is this straight swap if i pick one up at the junk yard.

    235 - T5, 73 Nova rearend. 75mph at 2500rpm.

  13. 235, Saginaw 4 speed, 3.08:1 10 bolt. cruises good at 65mph. Was running same engine/ trans with 3.73 gears, just like driving a Freightliner!:D Next step is the T-5 swap. Great ******, better shifter location.
