Keeps rocks out during the burnout. They take it off before staging. Most stack injected diggers do that now.
No photos but someone posted a photo of the Gene Adams Small Hemi. Lets go back to 1969 U. S. Nationals at Indy. Jr. fuel 32 car field and my buddy had a 301 small block, Hilborn,s, Howard Cam ( flat tappet, but that was the cam of choice) no tranny, direct drive and 9-10 inch Racemasters and a dual disc clutch, 98 percent and burn the tires as far as you could. 4 cars left and my buddy drew (I think) the Adams car and it got the best of him, but I think his car was the fastest Chevy in the field. They were pushing 180 at the time. Tire smoke and 98 percent nitro. Damn those were the good old days I still remember.
Heres pics of ours--Its a 1962 dragmaster with a 63 327 engine, date correct hilborn injection on alcohol. My son, who drives it, had the honor of meeting Dode Martin a few years back. We race it a few times a year, going to be at the detroit dragway reunion at milan dragway on june 9-going to be a great show.............

bought this 8yrs from calif. was told it was a 1968, was built to run t/f, but didn't(?). tough getting info from the previous owners. left the stuff on the panels that was last raced as. we still race (and show it) as much as we can here. supercharged 350 buick, 9.0 @ 147 so far.
BUMP! (I know it's an old thread, but Jr. Fuel rocks...) And since this appears to be the Official Bump Image: What happened to the SWJFA? The Facebook site hasn't been updated since 2020 and the SWJFA.com site only goes to 2018. Supposedly there's a '65 144" frame that's available, and I've got wheels and tires, and other folk have other bits. Maybe some fun 'n' games pending?
