Hello I am trying to put a 454 into a 1954 Chevy truck. Will it fit without modifying the firewall? Will the engine fit without switching to short style water pump? Will an electric puller fan work? I am thinking of using the stock exhaust manifolds are headers available for this combination. The front suspension is a Scott Danforth IFS based on a GM G body. Any ***istance would be great. Kent
Best just to go here with those types of questions: http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/forumdisplay.php?s=78f0663709a65682c459574da6d9c559&f=13
Rick beat me to it. We both hang out there too. That said I have a buddy in Texas who put a 396 in a 46 with less h***les than I had putting a 283 in my 48. There is a 396 out in the garage that was planned for my 48 but I decided not to go that way.
Put a 427 (same size outside as a 454) in a 53 and did not recess the firewall but m***aged it a bit on p***enger side for head clearance. Had to use the short pump and the GMC core support to move radiator ahead. Had an American motors Pacer IFS. It's been 40 years but I believed I used the mechanical fan with a shroud. It would be much easier to use a recessed firewall
I ran a 396 in my 37 with the factory frame and straight axle. Moved the steering box into the frame a little. My engine came with a pair of unknown application full length headers and I placed the engine so they'd fit. I also am running the long pump setup. I notched the firewall for head/valve cover clearance. I would think a bbc would fit an AD truck but haven't done it myself.
