Technical How 'bout some suicide front ends.

    I'd like to see some suicide front end constructs to compare mine with.

    I've got a dumb question...

    Why do they call it a suicide front end? Is it because the spring is out in front of the axle? What are the advantages and disadvantages. I don't know...

    I thought a suicide front end meant axle in front of spring as in post number 5 above.
    If/When the leaf spring fails the ch***is drops on the ground rather than on axle.
    I personally would never fix the shackles to the wishbones either, not that any one asked.........

    I agree regarding spring on wishbones. Does not seem like a great idea with all the work stress on the bones what with the wall thickness of said bones. Not sure the ride would be that great .

  10. Well the name comes from one of its main attributes-
    Build it out and un-pack that a little bit.
    If the spring or shackles or perches fail you'll likely die, since you chose to drive something that can kill you ,,,, thus suicide front end.

    The end of the frame is behind the axle, or the frame ends before the axle- that allows the frame to be below line of the axle and achieves a very low stance. If something fails, the frame digs into the pavement vs the frame landing on the axle.

    I don't know about anybody else's setup but I can tell you first hand, my coupe was like a go cart. not the tightest turning radius but a kick *** go cart that went around bends with ease. The ride was great

    Funny I said you seldom see a spring in front on a suicide front and nearly all of these prime examplres are spring in front, don't I feel smart now. :oops::D

    Cant see a suicide front end in this photo,
    Being crushed by them is not suicide....lol
