We wanted to mount the body first, so it’s rigid so we can work the quarters. We’re not doing a whole lot of rust repair on the dog legs, it’ll get a few patches and mainly just fibergl***ing the holes up. It’s just a racecar. Lol
The inner seat mounts are on, driveshaft loop is in, front frame braces are on, got the gas tank tabs welded and the tank in place. Got the radiator pretty much figured out on how we’re gonna mount it too. Gonna have to make a few ears and get them welded to the radiator.
Kitty hair for the patching holes, that stuff is tuff as nails, plus you can buy it at Walmart. If it'll help, I am space limited on my 40 so I started looking at radiators on ebay. The 65,66 Mustang is only 19 in, wide, I found a 3 core alum, $139, and a 4 core for $199 with free shipping. It has mounting brackets on it. Only draw back is the top hose is on the opposite side, no biggie, but the outlets are the same size as a chevy.
Yeah we’re using kitty hair to plug the holes. We have a Honda Civic radiator we’re putting on the 55. Hoses are the right orientation for a Chevy but the sizes are smaller. 50$ with free shipping on eBay and it’s tiny. It’d fit good in a small car too.
Radiator is mounted. It’s close to the front end the way it worked out with the crossmember so we’ll have to put holes in the front end directly in front of the radiator, so there will be a 9”x 14” patch of holes offset in the solid grill.
I've seen those used on dragsters, that one looks thicker than what I've seen though. I am going to street drive mine a little bit so I need a little more capacity. Looking good!
Love the injection!! Would like to see it on the H-Bomb!!! Let me know if you ever decide to move on to something else. By the way, how's the Homegrown?!
Will do Higgy! My 57 is sitting neglected. I ordered my new rear shocks yesterday, I’ve gotta put them on, put new slicks on, pour in water, and adjust the valves and I’m ready to race. Next week I’ll peobably work on my car some to get it ready.
Steering is pretty much done. We made half saddles out of chromoly, welded them to the dash bar, and welded the other one to a strut coming off the front down bar over to the column, and then put chromoly tubing over the aluminum shaft, and held them on with hose clamps. That way we can roll the column out of the way to pull the engine or whatever when we’re working on the car. We have to shorten the steering rod up, and finish making the steering wheel adapter tomorrow, and we’re done with the steering.
Zak, I bought one of those radiators off ebay . Mine came with an electric fan and a radiator cap for $68.00 with free shipping. Thanks for the tip.
Took some time off dads car the past day or two to get my car ready for shady side, but did manage to get his master cylinder mounted, pedals mounted, and a bar on. It’s coming together.
Got dads car rolled out today to blow the sand off and take better pics. Also got his rear wheels on it. Starting on body work now.
Can't wait to see how you put floors in it. I've been curious how to and there's not much info on it Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
It might, if it did it wouldn’t be noticeably better, I’d say straight up and down would be best in a perfect world. We put them as veritically as we could. They work leaning this way too, my 57 is rear shackle, leaned toward the front. We tried leaning the shocks back on this car, but the way the caliper fits on the rear of the spindle, the caliper hit the body of the shock when it steered.
