I knocked the pins from the side panels of my hood today. I am going to run a set of Eric's leather straps. Should I cut the loops out of the hood bottom seams, or just leave them. They are kinda tucked under and I don't think they will show unless you have the hood up. This is a banger build.

Just my thought but I wouldn't cut up a nice hood, you may decide to put the hood sides back on in a few years. HRP

If you take your time and bend up new rods you can attach the leather straps to them, looks very nice that way. Bob

Now that's a good idea. Any pics of the bends. I ***ume you are bending to get the clearance for the leather straps?

Whilst mine don't use the springs here is how I went about it.

Although my coupe is registered without a hood sometime I run one and sometimes I don’t 

For some time I have been attracted to the idea of just running the hood top and leather straps to hold it down but I also wanted to be able to run sides if I wanted to.

Rather than buy the whole kit I decided to not use the stainless springs that come in the kit and instead to continue to use the stock hood side hold downs. This meant all I need to buy was the fancy clips, some d rings, rivets and leather.

I made up some brackets that attach (slide on) where the original hood side goes using the standard hood side rod and now I can make the change from hood sides to no hood sides in about 5 minutes. No screws to undo and no new holes in the coupe :)

I have a few thousand miles on this set up now and so far so good.

Not the best pic...picked up some rod at the farm store, bent a loop I could remove to put the hood sides on during wet weather. Also, bought the springs and made the straps. No longer have the Coupe, sold it late last year. 0502183150-1.jpg

Could always go over the top if you are not too worried about the paint . . .

Ever since first seeing the 'indiscreet' stainless jumping jack springs I wondered to what lengths some individuals would go to showcase open hood sides...
Bravo, @acme30, for utilizing a simple over center cam for tension.
    Ugly overkills raise my tension...

Slight downsize in rod diameter might leave room for a strap. (or file flats in right slot spot.)

Hmmm...didn't know the "jumping jack" springs were so offensive, even though it's something different, I riveted the straps and bent the loops. Anybody can write a check & build a 1-800-Hotrod. Warning don't look at any of my past posts...making frame aprons, pics of my roadster with a chopped windshield, etc...those pics might also offend you.

    Yeah. 'Offend'. Picket marcher expression.
Just my opinion on the springs, I did it differently.
    'Cause I hate the springs.
You didn't use 'em on the windshield or aprons, I hope. :D

Not a fan of the leather straps I used ezsus fasteners on the underside of the front, bayonet on either side at firewall, a little bit of fabrication but I like the results.[IMG]

    3340,
Another question of mine is what is the paint everyone is using for the satin black finish? I am thinking of painting my fordoor satin black. Looks sharp 3340
