Hauled this home from the Youngstown Ohio area in September of 2017. Gonna be my daily driver , well at least until the first snow of the year and the wonderfull city / county road dept covers the roads in salt . The plan is to shoot it in red oxide primer with a flat clear . Power will be a 283 Chevy, my grandpa bought the block new over the counter in 1959. It will be built with a Duntov 097 cam original looking sheet metal valve covers and an old oil bath air cleaner I will convert to a paper element. Trans will be a turbo 350. View attachment 3846242 Let the chassis begin . I built the frame jig about 20 years ago using a cherry original frame. View attachment 3846255 Before boxing the rails I grabbed some conduit from Lowe's and welded it inside as a way to run the wireing for the horn and headlights View attachment 3846266 Boxing the rails complete after lots and LOTS of grinding View attachment 3846273 9 inch with buggy spring and ladder bars . Will have drilled I beam with hairpins in front. Used speedway Motors center / trans cross member View attachment 3846274 View attachment 3846289 Used an old deuce factory pedal assembly , then machined the booster mater cylinder mount to move it farther back to allow more clearance for exhaust View attachment 3846291 Front cross member is in stock location but I will move the radiator 1 1/2 forward to not cut the firewall . Need all the leg room I can get. View attachment 3846293 Used an old Hurst mount but modified the right side so I could still use a manual fuel pump. View attachment 3846296 Done with my frame jig , now it can start to look like a truck. View attachment 3846299 The doors were BADLY bent and tweaked I decided to let go of some $$ and buy new ones from United Pacific. Yea they are pricey, Very pricey, but the quality is super nice. Had to unbolt the top to to straighten the cab , it was racked real bad towards the back , I guess that's what happens with a flat windshield at a high rate of speed . View attachment 3846313 View attachment 3846317 At this point, it was August 2017. Time to take it to George Dillman, Hoosier Hoods, to get a hood made. I have know George literally all my life , live just 15 min from him . I' gonna have him make a 3 pc hood ,but still install all the hardware to look like a 4 pc. Since this will be my daily driver I want to easily be able to remove the hood by my self. George is pretty much retired but is still working , just at a retired mans pace . View attachment 3846318 December of 2017 hood done and truck back in my shop . Just in time for the it's too cold to heat the garage months. I hate living in Indiana but I'm to nostalgic about my little town where i was born and raised to move South. View attachment 3846319 March 2018 , got front fenders . That's probable where I will stop until this fall. View attachment 3846324 View attachment 3846655
very nice truck! That will be a great daily driver. My 2nd rod was a 33 truck with a 265 and closed Ford drive line drove that back and forth to the navy base in RI then after that stint I sold it for $500 to another fella over in NY. Never saw it again
