After we sandblasted the headers,(and repainted the fenders and new sparkplug wires) we figured it would all burn off anyway. So we used just enough VHT white to make It look good (one can, both headers) and that stuff has lasted a few years. I think thin coats is the key.
Sand blast , coat of vinyl wash primer then heat paint , works & lasts & covers better & you will use less heat paint
i took mine down to bear metal also and had the same problem. i think i may have put the paint on too thick. also i did not spray inside.
Rustoleum BBQ paint works. VHT painted headers need to be redone when needed. I had my experience with VHT, it ****s. Ceramic coat from Capps in Fresno is best.
vht ****s.....i had nothing but problems with that ****...so what i did was clean up a old pair of fender well headers for my 56 chevy...and you may think im crazy but i went to home depot and grabbed 2000 degree high temp heat bbq paint in white ..and ive had no problems ...no discolor .only dis color is from the black exaust at the ends...
Yep years ago bought a set of headers (don't remember what brand, but they were bright purple)...sanded, wiped down with acetone, another sanding and wipe down, dull finish, damn near to bare metal and shot with several coats of white VHT...engine was a shoehorn fit. First time I took car out, brown, ****py looking headers...they still looked that way when I sold the car
send them to finishline coatings to be ceramic coated, they have all different kinds of finishes and you wont have a problem with peeling or chipping. finishlinecoatings.com
Mine came out fine, we will see once I run them. I media blasted them with iron oxide, cleaned with acitone, primed with VHT primer 3 thin coats and 6 VHT white coats. They’ve been sitting to cure for 6 months in my garage
