Thanks @Sprout...sad reality is we are all aging and disappearing and these places fall to similar fates many times with us. Thanks for saving some of it in a virtual way and thanks for alerting those that may want a stab at it...
From experience around here they tend to want to inflate the prices when they decide to sell out and close out and end up selling most of it for s****. They could probably sell a lot of stuff guys have been looking at for years if the price was say half again or twice what s**** brings rather than as high or higher than swap meet prices.
I went today. 3 hrs one way. Pretty overwellming what's all there Sent from my XT1710-02 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I'm always conflicted as to like photos such as these or not. Sorta like the RIP threads, I never click 'like' on those, seems wrong to 'like' someone's demise. I clicked the 'like' in appreciation of the posting effort here, plus there's some great shots there. And, a great bunch of parts. All you guys local to this go save as much as you can.
That's too bad. I'd think an announced auction would bring in more. Then again, might not be in an area that many can get to to make it worth while.
I've seen this happen so many times over my years that it don't even effect me anymore. No doubt there are a few good pieces left like the 55 Pontiac door molding but the truth is there isn't much there that's a builder. What I've seen bring this on is when over all sales drop off and property Taxes go up the management tries to stay afloat by raising prices. That never works. They should have had a Crusher in there a long time ago and moved out the hulls and brought in newer vintage vehicles to keep up with where the demand is. I'd bet most of what's in the photos has been on the ground over 25 years. They should have taken advantage of the internet when it first started way back, most of that would be gone to home builders. How do you find these places if your 2 States away? Hmm, ya, it's a sad thing. The Wizzard
Were you able to buy anything? What are prices like? If prices were really good, I see a ton of **** I'd grab out of there, if only to resell later and keep it from getting s****ped. I've had the chance to do similar parts pulling at yards that were getting closed, it's hard when there's so much there to get, but once it's gone it's gone.
I look at 'liking' as an acknowledgement that I have been by and looked at what was being conveyed. @Sprout did a lot of shooting, researching, legwork and posting to get this message out. Yes its unfortunate but I still enjoy seeing the stuff. There is lots of negatives mixed in the positive here at the Hamb so liking can mean other things such as agree or appreciate a point of view. Sometimes I respond to my likes such as in this thread and that also puts things in context. This looks to be a fairly dry state but some of the stuff looks burned. Still plenty of parts despite that. Being an old car in a yard is a almost a fully nailed coffin at best for them anyways but somehow many hang in there.
What a shame another one bites the dust-my wife and I were just talking the other day about farm sales- used to be several every weekend. I remember going every weekend for sees like forever. Not so many now. The other day my 10 yr. old grandson was here and I told the wife there was a farm sale this weekend and my grandson asked what that was. I just figured he would of known, kind of weird what we take for granted. The same goes for the old salvage yards we have 1-2 around here but 1 is already shut down. Pretty sad
thanks for all the pics,...looks like a lot or most have been picked over, which is actually good as that's why they were put there, still lots of good parts in there, hope a bunch gets saved,...we all like vintage car pics.
On the few I asked about they were very reasonable. I went specificly looking for my 47 Sent from my XT1710-02 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
They have one the largest collections of tempests in the country Sent from my XT1710-02 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I see lots of small stuff that could be saved, but it's only good to those that need it. Most of it looks to be pretty well picked over. Sad to see them disappear, in a few years anything older than the 1990's will be gone, all that is left will be fwd garbage.
How reasonable is reasonable? Just like junk is someone's treasure, let us know what ya paid and it may influence some to get there. Why can't this happen near me and why won't places like this send out info before it's too late? Always the last second. I want stuff!! Sent from my SM-G955U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
sad but seen it many times. not sure of the deal here, but usually the owner retires, and new owner has a big mortgage to pay, so start crushing. or, owner dies, kids inherit the place and they dont want a greasy junk business, they want one big check
Yes, i see lots of stainless trim and the first few pics must be some rare gl*** ( those wide curved rear windows ) That glovebox clock looks cool. buick ?? Can,t save everything but like a few have said, they may have hung onto the stuff a little to long and now it,s panic time.
If I was in a little better position I'd consider a 14 hour drive, a couple days in the yard at a hotel and another 14 hour drive home, it's not really in the cards at this point but it would be worth it. There's another local place that is also getting crushed out, but very near my shop, me and a friend have been working it all winter long, trying to save what can be saved. A lot of times, what looks to be picked over at first glance, still has tons of valuable **** in it, that's definitely been the case for me in the past. Gotta look past the obvious. Sprout, looks like you got a pretty good day's haul there, thanks for adding the pictures here and letting us know what's going on, hopefully getting the word out will get more parts saved.
