I'm trying to visualize a way to mount my rear shocks. I was planning to use the Armstrong pictured but not opposed to tube shocks. My fabrication skills and tools are limited so keep that in mind.

I reused the radius rods from a 46 banjo because the are almost perfect length for my shortened torque tube.

Car is a 31 Roadster with 283 and 40 Ford 3 speed. Some pictures of what I have to work with.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

First things first: I'd move that brake line over the spring...

On to your question - having just gone through some of this, your shock should me mounted on the frame, and you need a dog bone connector to go from the lever arm to the hole in the original spring mount on your rear end. The dog bones come in different lengths, so you can mount the shock such that the dog bone is pretty much vertical.

Hope that helps. If you do a search, you should come up with some threads on this.

This is how they are mounted on my MGB. Yes, not the same animal, but perhaps useful. Shock mounts to frame. Shock arm (#2) attaches to lower spring perch (#21)

The brake line is just moved out of the way but for sure will go above the spring.

I had thought about using the hole in the spring mount but its so far behind where the frame ends I'd have to mount the shock on the other side of the xmember at the end of the frame. I think it would bind on the rear spring. Really had a hard time finding threads that mention rear shocks but I'm sure they are buried inside build threads.

EDIT - You may be right working on a mockup with some shock ends I have now, looks pretty close.

    Thanks though

Ah, if your frame ends there it could be problematic. You might consider modifying your existing spring shackle bracket to accommodate the shocks, or looking for a bolt-on bracket to supplement. Noted that you have limited equipment.

Needs a little bit of the heat and bend but what are thoughts on this?[IMG][IMG]

Looks like it would work. Might want to see if you can get a longer arm from the shock to the dogleg, but otherwise it looks operational.
