Got nothing done to the diecast roadsters this week. But I don't think I have shown these progress shots on the channeled '32. Did this work a couple of weeks ago. Also thought I would throw in a couple of shots of 2 finished (?) 1/18th diecasts. I have shown these before, but the images were handy so here they are. Geoff aka whodaky
When the camera angle and light are right, some of these are hard to tell from there full size cousins.
The pickup looks VERY realistic from that angle. My progress today: I still need to trim down the rear tonneau section before I finish it out in white pearl.
Damn you work fast Dave! Started throwing this '32 roadster together because I don't have any built '32 roadsters, other than the Big Duece's I'm working on. It will be very dark blue, black wheels with blackwalls. It'll be a curbside. Some work on the chassis of the 'Bones style '32 sedan. Orange crate quickchange with revell '31 sedan rear parts. Scratching a '32 k-member. revell '40 flathead and trans. orange crate hairpins, self-dropped "stock" axle from the revell '31. I'll be correcting that front track width shortly! Cut the front of the crate body off, and am grafting in the front of the revell '32 3-window cowl. Makes the hood fit better, gets rid of the lower bulges it had for the hairpins, and also adds a cowl vent.
Nice work guys and thanks for the comments. Willie the roadster and the coupe began as Road Legend diecasts. Can't remember off hand what the pickup is. I buy various brands of 1/18th diecast. To get appropriate subject matter as well as a range of different parts to use for various projects. Fidgiter the tudor looks great. I like what you did with the cowl. Another mod I have done on the Orange crate body to get it looking right (in my eyes at least) is to narrow the rear of the body. To me the body is to wide at the back. To narrow it I put vertical pie cuts on each side at the rear of of the body extending up into th roof and forward tapering to nearly the B piilars. I am only talking a little over 1/16th of and inch to nothing either side. Just my thoughts Geoff aka whodaky
Geoff...Are the Road Legend diecast '32 coupes made in Australia? I'm trying to find one but I've struck out on Google and e-bay..Thanks, Mike
Here is a little project I have been working on over the last month or so in conjunction with another modeler. My end of the job was to do the drawing and machine work for a lancer style hubcap. I did the metal work, and the other guy is working on the plastic work. This is just a rough assembly of the plastic, the bars will sit snugly against the center cap (no gaps), and they will make contact with the "dish" of the wheel cover. We are also working on a photoetch part for the waffle patten in the center. There are actually 2 different versions of the center bar, one with the bullet, and one whats just bars. Chances are, this unit will be offered by an aftermarket company in resin.
Mike try this, www.yatming.com no not made here It is the site shown on the box of one of the models. I am having trouble getting into the site at the moment, but I have been on it in the past! Geoff aka whodaky
Ok so I'm in the shed workin on my 1 to 1 and all I can think about is what's going on at the sunday models hang out !!!! It's got to me so I got this old Merc out and took a few snaps . Here is one I did about 10 years ago .. Looks reag good from a distance. Are you happy now Geoff...
Me happy, nah never. It is good that you have shown something though Scott. Yeah the HAMB can be so addictive, especially when you see stuff you can relate to. Good bunch of guys here in the model post. A lot of very inspiring stuff every week. Maybe I should stop posting Scott? Geoff aka whodaky
Good to see a lot of new work happening. Those Lancers will be cool! I want some! Still messing with the flathead that will go in my 50 Ford. I got a bunch of acorn nuts from Replicas & Miniatures. But, for things to look right, I had to drill away the bolt heads molded in to the heads & also drill small holes for the mounting shafts. That turned out to be the easiest way to mount them. The heads are painted with aluminum metalizer & the acorn nuts are Alclad chrome. Man, I need to get those carbs happening. Hopefully soon. Just for reference, here's what the heads looked like before. Steve
The Sunday model posts are great, don't anyone stop posting. Who - I see what you mean about it being a bit wide. I got it as a builtup, and someone glued the crap out of the interior panels, and inner fenders. They aren't coming out easilly. Might be a problem trying to narrow it, but might be worth a shot. Thanks for the sugestion. Started messing with another one. Shortened the AMT Piranha chassis a bit...the body had been part of a salt racer at some point in its life....hacked up, glued together, hacked some more (third pic is it)....maybe it'll see the finish line with this project. Damn Steve, thats NICE!
That motor is kick ass man, not gonna lie. I love it, and i love your attention to detail. Chad you are the man, and i can't believe your doin that. I was just thinkin to myself the other day when i was maching some wheels of a project of mine that if i could learn how to program a cam program i could make some kicken wheel for models of mine. Good luck with thoses man, looking good. Pat
Great job again everyone. I can't tell you what a motivational tool the Sunday Models are as well as the HAMB in general. Steve, that motor looks fantastic! The whole car is beautiful!!! Chad, I love those Lancers. Can't wait to see them on a wide white. Eric, the Rollin Bones is great. Whodaky, WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some day I'll have pix!!!!
You dont need CAD man! Keep it simple. You could probably buy an inexpensive lathe, and learn that before you learned the whole CAD thing. I like the feel of using an old engine lathe (not that I could afford a real CAD machine anyway), relate it to driving an old car. Ive never used CAD, im not a computer guru, but there is nothing like hand drawing plans, calculating some dimentions, plotting the cuts, and turning the dials and creating a part from a raw piece of metal. Here are some pics of the photoetch piece installed.
my attempt at scale air-bags.. built a bridge with a .. sort of monster notch into the trunk.. its gonna have an airtank and lines and hopefully an opening trunk, maybe someone can touch on the hinges topic?? i have never done it. looks like shit now bit i've been cleaning it up all day, pics tomorrow with the body on it.
Fidgiter that coupe is looking good. Chads, I like the way you think. I like doing stuff the old way. It may take longer a lot of the time, but it can be so much more satisfying. And it keeps the old ways alive in this rush rush hi tech world in which we all live! Geoff aka whodaky
anyone know where there is a how to for hinges? would like to do some hinges on the 41 trunk lid but i've never done them.
Ok, it's model car monday for me. Finally worked on this a little more. It's almost ready for paint. Mocked it up again with my new wheels (from a '50 Ford kit) and tires (from a 48 woodie). Final touch will be '53 caddy caps.
Thanks! This started as a vision to recreate my dad's old car, it seemed overwhelming at first but it's getting there. Chassis is almost done, 331 caddy powered. Skirts are removeable. Chopped carson top, extended headlights, moulded fenders, shaved handles, filled gas door, nosed & decked, frenched taillights. Note the lovers column shifter It's really going to look good with the grille, spotlights, custom bumpers, trim ect.. back on. edit: some mocked together.
