Hi folks, what have you all done in terms of choosing the correct # of circuit wiring harness.

I have a 54 Chevy 3100 and will be cruiser only. 235 motor with upgraded OD transmission will be the biggest change.

Is a 14 circuit wiring harness overkill? Or, will a 8 circuit harness do me just fine? I don't expect to add AC/Heat.

Tried looking for the Search ****on...but am only seeing the big red ****on to post new thread. I appreciate your time and opinion. Oh, I have never wired up a vehicle so this will be my first time in doing so.

    Thank you

  2. depends....even with basic wiring 8 may not be enough, 14 should get everything . it doesn't hurt to have a couple extra circuits to grow

all three of my hot rods have painless 12 circuits

count up what you need......horn , lights, turn signals, brake lights, ignition, electric fan, electric fuel pump, wipers, radio, gauges, dome light...that makes11. your experience may differ

That's what I thought as well, but

Thank you for your time and input. Sounds like 12-14 is the way to go.

I have a Kwik Wire 14-circuit harness in my Ford, I haven't used a couple of things like the radio circuit and the 3rd brake light. Trucks are pretty basic, look at the Rebel 9+3 harness. I had to have heat in my car since I live in NY and it hooked up to my original heater easily.

  5. i think both of those mentioned by bobss396 would be a good choice. my point is add up what you REALLY need and add a couple for growth. some of the harness makers have kits that you can add circuits to easily

just a thought...another circuit to have is a power outlet so you can plug in your cell phone charger or GPS. hide it up under the dash and wire it so it's full time power

    Hey Mofa,

I had never wired a car before either and am about halfway through on my ‘54 chev 3100. On an old rodder’s recommendation I went with Larry’s Electric generic 12-circuit panel and harness. It was fairly priced and pretty easy to use. He’s based out of the Midwest somewhere (I found him at a swap meet), but you can order his stuff online too. Hope this helps!
