those brakes could almost be 49-54 Chevy. what's the bolt pattern?

It's too damned dark to go out and look at the drums and backing plates on the 52 F-1 chassis I have out here.. As 49ratfink said those sure look like 49/54 Chevy drums though. What is the lug bolt pattern?

  4. Axle looks 33 to 6, brakes not Ford so I have no idea about them.

51-54 chevy brakes, not 49-50. If that's what they are. looks like it could be.

I’m thinking Econline brakes , axle has been identified . Determine the bolt pattern will help , identify the brakes . Chebbies , I have used from that era had bolt on steering arm and early Ford spindle either round or square . Try to identify bolt pattern , it will be a big help . Maybe Chebbie early van ?

I expanded the photo a bit , are the steering arms bolted between spindle and drum ? If so it very well may be early Chebbie

here are some crummy pics of what I am pretty sure are 51 Chevrolet drums-slash-hubs. it was dark and scary over on that side of the shop where I took the picture. I stepped in something wet. this is all you get.

    51-52-53,, almost for sure.

OK, thanks everyone. gives me something to look into. it came with a 35-36 banjo and rear wishbones so I imagine its from the same car then.

Agreed about Chevy brakes and spindles. The axle had to be bent to correct the camber, Ford king pin inclination is 8* and Chevy only 4*. Also axle was either bored to accept Chevy king pin diameter of .867, or some guys use a Ford k/p set and make custom bushings from bearing bronze for the spindles.

Ok, thanks. I'll set it aside for now until I get a chance to tear into it and see what's been done. Was this a common thing to do?

There was a HUGE article on these early/strange brake swaps in the old HAMB tech archive which would help you figgerout bending specs, what bearings are in there, etc. Anyone have that?
My original book with that is in parts unknown right now. Original was in a Ford book of articles collected by I think the old "Rod Action" magazine, perhaps mid 1970's vintage.
