I did a search and found an announcement of the auction of his shop, but nothing on the man himself. Thought some might be interested in Jelly! http://kansasracinghistory.com/BigCars1930s_files/Jelly/Jelly.htm http://kansasracinghistory.com/BigCars1930s_files/Jelly/CarList.htm I'm sure many of you have purchased parts he made and didn't even know it!!
There was barely any publishing about Jelly when he died last year. I expected to see something in Speed Sport News or the like. Of course - here in Wichita he was well known to most race fans and car guys of a certain age. In fact, when I used to go out of state to races or car events, and told people I was from Wichita - the next question they asked was, "Do you know Jelly Wilhelm?"..... I didn't know him well, just enough to say hello at car shows and swap meets. He was a hell of a builder, and lots of name racers spent time behind the wheel of a car Jelly built.
Yes, I was somewhat surprised at the lack of published information. That's why I started this thread, hell of a guy!
Jelly is a huge loss to the hot rod world. I miss seeing him every year at the Wichita swap meet. Some things will never be the same .
He helped me research my V8 QC conversion to 9 inch axles and let me use his shop to do the work. Not many people will do that!
