Didn't somebody , ultra rich guy once say , HE WHO DIES WITH THE MOST TOYS , WINS ?????

so many cars , so little time. That's why all those restored cars changed hands at Barrett-Jackson in fla over the last few days . People got lots of money , but no time and no knowledge of what it takes to accomplish it.

  2. All we leave behind is headaches , for most people !!! My father took nothing with him when he passed , other than what I placed in his coffin with him .Left me 3 model Ts and a 60 year collection of parts .I already had 5-6 cars of my own and parts collection for those , primarilly 33 34 chevs . I have unloaded most of the T parts as I di not ever see me building one .I have finally come to terms to sell 1 or 2 of the Ts

  4. That's one pretty Chevy!

  5. Sure makes a beautiful hot rod .The car I am looking at is a surviver all original including the top with dual sidemounts .car is probably a 7 low 8 as far as condition goes .I think it could be cleaned up to make it a little better .

great post picture paul55. I was surprised I could not pull at least one up on a google search.

I never understood the street rodder magazine fascination with 32 fords as this style is a knockout. Its all about who the editor is. He knows my opinion !

After setting body back on frame started tweaking and locking wood together. I'm amazed how little I had to do to get body to fit to the wood I replaced. I got all the body nailed to the sills tonight. Still have to finish the patch for the cowl section I cut out but for most part all tied together now.

  9. Mallomike has a choice of rear aprons for his 33 3 window master, he can't decide which one. he is leaning toward the one without the reveal. i am going to get them both square, ironed out and welded up. i started with the one with the reveal. DSCF0007.JPG DSCF0008.JPG

Joe, that folded in half, hoping was in middle of panel , not length wise. Can be repaired and I am thinking English wheel or Yoder power hammer in the hands of a skilled man with right equipment , can bring the dead panel back to life.. Considering how tough it is to even find a repairable one at an affordable price , its probably worth it to repair.

I posted these pictures of the gas tank cover redo on RUSTY BOWTIES last couple of years.
The gas tank cover fits :
1933 Chevrolet standard series coupes and sedan.
It also fits early to december 1934 Chevrolet coach.
It fits 1934 coupes standard series and 1935 standard series
Also 1934 -1935 standard roadster and phaetons.

In late 1934 ( december ) Chevrolet lengthened the body by 2 inches for the 2 door coach and went to a one piece rear panel starting at the roof eliminating the separate gas tank cover panel, that's why there is a shortage of STANDARD SERIES gas tank cover panels. Apparently the 2 door coach and the new 4 door sedan sold like hotcakes. Ever wonder why there are two types of license plate holder and tail light arms ? Because of that 1934 coach body made 2" longer doesn;t allow the fender mount to work, you need the bumper mount cast arms.

I purchased a 1933---1935 standard gas tank cover panel out of the south west , from a guy who swore there had been no repairs or body man in a can bondo to this , just the cracked nitro lacquer finish.

You know the drill, part gets shipped here, open crate and DAMN , this needs more than paint stripping.
So off we go to Enviro tech strippers to have it chemically stripped of the bondo in it and also all the paint. Next it gets acid etched to remover the rust. Now we can see what we got to work with..

Its thin metal and this panel is in trouble. I now got $900 tied up in it. So off I go to Peter Fawcett at fawcetts auto restoration in town. Pete and I talk and he tells me what has to be done and what kind of time I can expect to see a bill for. They have all the old time equipment and the guys with the skill to do it right.

Following are some pictures about the rebuild. Only thing never got sorted was a hole in middle that should not be there, got filled and the metal is now stretched and needs more shrinking to make it right. This is way beyond my skill level.. They made a tool to form the fill in the piece across the back, INGENIOUS and quality work.

Sometimes you got to suck it up and pay to have specific stuff done.. About 4 months later I get a call from a friend down Hamilton way with a early 34 sedan, has an extra panel that's been correctly repaired. Fill pockets with cash and head out and bought it for 1/3 of what I just paid for the repair and purchase of the other one pictured.
ISN"T THAT ALWAYS THE WAY ??????????????????? LMAO

  14. the one with white primer on it is really wavy, dinged and has rot. once both are ironed out he can decide which one to use and which one to sell. i have a little over an hour getting the blasted one "neatened" up.

I have a couple of nice aprons for my cars , 4 door will likely get a glass one I have.
Folded one is in the middle , not lengthwise , will take a fair bit to make it a good one. Will hang on to it for now , doesnt take up much room folded in half LOL

when I first got the 35 3w coupe in 1970, the rear apron, rear fenders and running boards were all replaced with fiberglass from a company called "made rite automotive parts " Cleveland Ohio. Piece by piece over the years I was able to find good quality used or NOS steel parts and have them repaired. I still have that same rear apron kicking around and we used it as the shape pattern to do the repair to the steel one.

Until you have had your hands all over one and felt the multiple shaped changes, you realize how complicated it is. Those profile duplicator gauges, I used 2 bolted together to make one longer one to supply to Fawcetts for checking the surface profile of the repair.

Joe here is a thought for you on your folded one. You may find one that's a real mess but the guts of it are good. To unfold the one, might just get it un-folded and cut the badly mangled center out and replace it with a 2-3-4" piece to fit into the center.

A mig welder and lots of special clamps to hold everything together and patience , may be the answer to the repair. Done from the rear side , to reduce the amount of metal removed when grinding the weld. Its a thought .

Looking at the 2 rear gas tank cover panels, with and without the reveal. Is the gas filler hole the same distance from the top on each of them, because in the picture they appear different ?????????

Started messing with some plywood for my floor, also found white ash locally to finish making some of my supports. One of the countries biggest custom hardwood lumber yards is close to me they actually stock lots of full pieces that would make all the sills etc. IMG_2005.JPG

JGROHIO................very nice. I think the slot in the middle of the standup oak piece running across, is that for the stock seat adjustment knob / mechanism ?

Do you have the stock metal tool tray that fits under the seat. ? Or are you going to run a stock seat or power bench or bucket seats. ?? Beauty of coupes is the battery relocates to the trunk rather than under the floor.

What kind of floor shifter is that, its real short.

The shifter is what was in car when guy built it as hot rod many years ago looks like some home made short rod. I kind of liked it. it was right at edge of stock seat. I have original seat and tool tray still not sure yet what I'm going to use for interior yet.

TB33ANDA3RD............and so it begins the rear panel straightening. It looks a fairly simple repair , but your hands and eyes will tell you , needs some bumping in specific areas. Highs made lower and lows brought up higher. Its a tricky operation. !! Its possible to metal finish this to an absolute minimum of filler, using just high build primer.

I think people reading this would be interested if you kept a log of all the time you spend to get it paint ready.
The total will surprise a lot of people .
