What model John Deere tractor does this steering wheel belong to?

I would like to run one of these in my Model A project, but don't know where to even start looking. I don't need to buy it just yet... it may turn out NOT to be what I need, but I need to find out what it is before I can figure that out.

Lots of years tinkering on old Deeres. That looks to be a model D John Deere and an early one at that. I would say 1925-1929.

HARD TO TELL FROM ANGLE BUT IT LOOKS LIKE AN UNSTYLED " AN". DO A JOHN DEERE SEARCH FOR RESTORATION PARTS i THINK THEY REPOP THEM.

Thanks guys! I'll do a search. Found this place so far:

Maybe I'll shoot them an email to see if they know or maybe even have one. I would actually rather have an original of possible (for history sake), but may consider a repop too if I can find one for a decent price.

I agree. It looks to be for an early Model D. Here's a 1929 Model D:

The one next to it is a 1937 and it has three round spokes. The tractor directly behind the 1929 D also appears to have this wheel.

Any guesses on rather or not this is being repopped? Anyone have one they want to make me a mean deal on?? Don't care if it's rusty as long as it's solid.

For old tractor classifieds go to ytmag.com. They have discussion forums too, post a pic on the John Deere forum and ask there - real helpful bunch. Just DO NOT tell them what it's going on! I think the pic is definitely early D, some other possibilities may be the model GP. A don't think it's an AR as suggested above (fwiw AN refers to a row crop tractor with a single front wheel. The AR is the standard or "wheatland" version)

Yeah, that's a good tip! I wouldn't want to give anyone a heart attack! I'll check out those classifieds you mentioned. I grew up in the Midwest and have tons of connnections in Iowa. I'm going to relay to them what I'm looking for as well. My grandfather had a Model A and Model B John Deere when I was a little guy. So, there's some significance to looking for a JD wheel.

Would anyone have a parts catalog for an early JD Model D that they could look up the P/N for that wheel for me?

John Deere allows you to register and look parts up on their web site, but they only show 6 items for a Model D. The steering wheel isn't one of those. Based on that and my past experience working for them, you won't be able to buy it thru them.

So it's looking like swap meets, ebay and the classifieds! I'll hit up the Midwest resources. Maybe I can come up with something.

If anyone has one, let me know.

    Thanks guys!
