Lee marvin and Bob Keeshan fought together in WW11, Marvin exclaimed about Keeshan that............... He was the toughest and bravest son of a bitch he had ever met, quite a tribute I think .
First Mr. Rogers...and now Captain Kangaroo...both shows, a major part of my childhood - watched em' both EVERYDAY. RIP
Sad news. Somebody ought to combine these dearly departed characters and come up with a Mr. Kangaroo or Captain Rogers. I dunno it's just an idea and a bad one at that.
The obit said he was also Clarabelle the clown on Howdy Doody. We lost 2 good ones. Everyone knows the wooden boy couldn't have been successful without Clarabelle. We lost Mr Dress-up not long ago up here in Canada. End of an era. Nutz.
aww, geez. my least hazy memory of his show was making the theme music start and stop with his giant key ring. I thought that was pretty neat.
"Smokin' Cigaretts & watchin' Captn' Kangaroo.... Don't tell me I got Nuthin' to do!" Been there man... we'll miss him...
[ QUOTE ] Thank God for Captain Kangaroo. May he rest in peace. [/ QUOTE ] Until we meet on Gods Celestial Shores..., You'll be missed!
My G.F. saw him in a nightclub, hitting on a 20 year old girl, a few years after his wife died. kinda messes with you when you grew up watching him on TV. I say Go Cap't! R.I.P. Cap't, say hi to my Mom.
[ QUOTE ] R.I.P. I think a deluge of pingpong balls is in order. Billy [/ QUOTE ] Now, that made me laugh. And the fact that he was Clarabelle, too cool. Be thankful for people like him, Mr. Rogers and Jim Henson.
Sorry RYAN, I know it's still Tech Week... But that really blows. I just saw it on the news, too. I feel sorry for the kids that didn't get to grow up with his show.
The world is a lesser place with this loss... [ QUOTE ] Lee marvin and Bob Keeshan fought together in WW11, Marvin exclaimed about Keeshan that............... He was the toughest and bravest son of a bitch he had ever met, quite a tribute I think . [/ QUOTE ] www.snopes.com is down right now for some reason, but that statement above isn't true. I'll check on it later & see if I can find the urban-legend de-bunker scoop on it...
Never saw the show. I guess by the response he must've been a pretty good entertainer...sad to see folks go.
I grew up with the Captain too! May God bless. Earlier in the week we also lost Ray Rayner. He was a legend on kids shows locally here in Chicagoland. He was retired down in New Mexico. He was 84. He was Oliver O Oliver along with Bob Bell as Bozo on the Bozo the Clown show on WGN. It takes a special kind of person to do what they all did, and do it so well. Man, we're getting old!
Is anyone else here old enough to remember when he was in "the Treasure House" before he moved to the farm? Also, do you remember "Fred on Chanel 1"? When I was a scary punk rocker, my favorite shirt was one I made with Fred on it... Remember at the treasure house he had the giant tube of Crest toothpaste that he would wind up and it would play the Crest jingle?
He is now gone - but by being what he was - we are all a little better for it...........May God bless his soul.
