I've been searching the internet and have had no luck finding this info. I'm trying to find the interior measurements for the trunk on a 1932 ford 3 and 5 window coupe. I don't know if they are the same size, so I'm covering my bases here and asking about both. The height from the hinges to the floor is not important. Just the measurement at floor level from side to side and from the front to the back. No one seems to have a '32 in my area that I can find to check for myself. So I'm hoping someone here can help me out. Thanks.
??? Well the floor runs from the body tailpan to the firewall. The 3 window is longer than the five window. Notice the back of the 3 window extends over the gas tank farther than the 5W. The width at the fenderwells is slightly more than the frame
I must have worded my original question poorly. Can anyone tell me how wide the interior of the trunk is? And what the measurement is from the front of the trunk to the back of the trunk at floor level.
If we don't know what your doing or thinking it's hard for us to understand what exact measurements you need. I'm not setting next to my car, but do you need the measurement from the bottom of the wheel well or the top, which would be outer quarter to quarter. The front stops where you put it. It can stop at the back of the seat with a stock package tray. Most guys eliminate the package tray to move the seat back. If your building upholstery panels to finish the trunk most guys build a bulkhead under the rain gutter. Take the initiative to google, for instance, Wescott '32 frame dimensions show at the rear crossmember the frame is 40" wide. The body fits closely at this point.
I have one sitting , not so easy to measure with Rumble Seat attached . But as stated 3 W is larger . Mine has had a roadster floor pan installed to get rid of the foot wells . So I know Roadster floor fits , how much work I have no idea . Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I didn't realize this was going to be so difficult. I thought someone here would have or know of someone who has an original car that could be measured. Just run a tape side to side and front to back. In the trunk. At floor level. Never mind.
The question has been answered. Certainly on a 3w there is nothing to determine the front to back measurement. There is no bulkhead for instance, just the back of the seat, and that moves. I can give you measurements off a Brookville 3w from the back to a body bolt if that helps. Which bolt? Chris
Thank you for the info. While I've loved these coupes for years, I've never had the time or money to own one. And I had no idea the 3 window seat was basically the front of the trunk. I'd like to find a 3 or 5 window to drive as often as possible. The last thing I need is something else sitting in the garage not being used. Plus I know cars are like people and just sitting around isn't any better for them than it is for us. I'd like to use it for everything from grocery store to hardware store to the golf course. But having literally no clue as to the size of an original vehicles trunk, I didn't know if there was room for my clubs. I know there are a lot of technical questions that are delt with here. My original thinking was if I ask the measurement question as short, directly and to the point as possible, I could get in and get out and not take up much room on the blog for the folks that are actually working on cars they have.
See, that wasn't hard was it? After your your first response I figured it sounded like an insolent kid that didn't know anything. Now we know that you're a practical adult that wants use his hot rod everyday. You'll find a lot of guys here just waiting to share their experiences in solving problems. I've got a buddy golfer that has a 3 window, but I don't remember him hauling his clubs. Now he has a '37 Chevy coupe and there is room for his and his wife's clubs. There's some nice trunk racks made for '32 that could hold your clubs. Or you could use bucket seats and slide the passenger seat forward enough to fit. How about putting a rumble seat deck lid on it and building a bracket that would hold the bag upright. Not as handy for groceries as a trunk, but it could work. A hitch and a small trailer will solve a lot of storage room.
If'n I happened to be a golfer and if'n I happened to have a Henry three window and if'n my f'n clubs didn't fit in the trunk I'd strap them on the roof. Guy has to have his priorities in order right @Bandit Billy.
A guy at Rose City GC the other day had his clubs strapped to the back of his motorcycle. The only car I couldn't fit my clubs in wss my stingray c3 roadsters.
