What a week. Saw a 41 Pontiac on ebay that looked good. Made a deal with the seller who had it for sale locally, so I didn't get into the bidding ****. Flew to Illinois to look at it, and bought it. Then the fun began. It looks a little better than it is, but I was there, and felling frisky, so I decided to drive it back to Texas, only 1200 miles. No speedo, no turn signals, no horn and as it turns out, no shocks. so with a little wobble in the steering, no shocks and some brakes, I hit the road. and was pleasantly surprised. On the freeway it rolled along fine, although construction zones with concrete on both sides of the lane were pretty frightening. Made it home in 2 days with only a can of stopleak for the radiator. It had been sitting a while, so it ran better at the end than in the beginning. I'll be posting lots of questions as I know nothing about these cars, and this one won't get serious work till we finish the 28 for my son, but it's mine. Hoping I can do some "home repairs" to make it safe to drive until then. Special thanks to Rocky for his encouragement to try and drive it home. cruising down the road with all the rattles, windows open, ear to ear grin, made me feel 20 again, and that was a long time ago. Sometimes you just have to do something stupid, so you can get lucky.
Been there before, drove a car back from Alb.N.M. with some of the same problems. Good luck with the car.
Killer buy. I did a similar trip by myself but the car was much more solid and wasn't quite as far but I had a BLAST. Flying down the interstate by yourself and listening to the exhaust....doesn't get much better than that. Good **** man, enjoy.
Congratulations on the purchase and the trip. I had that same grin last November when I drove my poncho from Omaha.
Very cool ride. If you need a shop manual for that car, P.M. me your mailing address. Pay postage only. Good luck.
Sorry, I got excited and didn't follow instructions. don wallace 107 Saddletree San Antonio Texas 78231 By the way. I'm originally from mn. Got about 200 relatives around the faribault area. Many of them named DeGroot.
Rocky; That's only the view in your state. Missouri had nice scenery, Texas had wall to wall traffic. LOL.
Time for an update. It's taken 9 months to do "some minor repairs". like Brakes, Suspension, Steering, Exhaust, Gas Tank, Radiator, Clutch Fan, Shroud, E Brake, Repair all gauges & speedo, Paint the hood and grill, add turn signals and install air conditioning. Here's my new ride.
