Howdy Folks I have a '56 Ford Fairlane without an engine, and will soon have some 392 Hemi's, has anyone one here done the conversion? Cheers
OMG, if you can pull this off, it would be fantastic. Please keep us posted on the progress with pictures.
Think G***er suspension with that project, a 351W barely clears the stock steering box so the HEMI will require a lot of metal working or very creative headers. But oddly enough a Mopar 440 isn't a bad fit.
The other day a fellow was selling a set of Boss 9 heads because the exhaust ports were right into the upper control arms. I have no idea how tall or wide a 392 is vs a 460 but that is where you may have a problem.
I recall a Hotrod magazine article about putting a hemi in a 55/56 Tbird. So it can be done. What is your skill level and bank account level?
many years ago and i'm talking nearly 50 years ago i was pumping petrol at a servo and a guy came in with a super neat 59 star model customline....had tube grille and rolled pans front and back and under the bonnet (hood) was a hemi and it was backed up by a 4 speed...so back in the 60's as you would imagine this was way off the cool meter don't recall the under bonnet area as being hacked up
forgot to mention this guy still has the car although deteriated...but has a fine stable of early yankee stuff
Hemi Thunderbird Posted on July 30, 2013 by Editor How’s this for a Hemi swap? A 1955 Ford Thunderbird! This car, or one like it, was featured in Hot Rod was back in 1958! See more pics after the jump! Via Moparts Update: the guys at Hemmings just sent me a link to an article they ran on a Hemi-powered 1955 Thunderbird back in 2010. Check it out! ‘ Related posts:
After thinking bout this I realized that I might have the magazine. I do. Here is the portion regarding the exhaust. If anyone would like a copy of the article let me know and I will copy and send to you.
To put that engine behind the front control arms in a 56 you will have the engine all the way back to the dash...
Thanks everyone, g***er suspension is an option but wanted to get it on the road with what it has first. The T-Bird conversions seemed reasonably common so was hoping it’s wasnt impossible but time will tell. When we get on it I’ll do my best to do***ent it
