pontiac water pump question

just got a new water pump for my 60 389. i was comparing the 2 and it seems as though the fins or whatever the hell ya call em face the opposite direction on the new one. do these come in a clockwise AND counter clockwise configuration??

They shouldn't...when I worked in an aftermarket parts store, I saw two water pumps come through that had the impeller fins facing the wrong way. Not the hot tip for cooling! Whatever your old one is, your new one should be.

 

Is this an A1 Cardone rebuilt unit? They had a problem with that a couple years ago where they were using a stamped impeller with the blades facing the wrong way. They fixed it by going back to a cast impeller with the right fins. Pretty sure they issued a new part # for the corrected unit.

IIRC, Lux Blue is the one caught this and got A1 Cardone to fix it.
