I need to get a rearend narrowed for my kid's 65 Comet. Anybody have any recommendations of where I could get that done around Arlington, WA? I don't have the fixtures and my welding skill aren't good enough yet. (I know that car is OT, but I will used the same place for several other on topic cars.) This rear is an 8.8 out of an Explorer. The plan is to get another short-side axle and narrow the housing to fit. I can do all the disassembly, cutting of brackets, etc. Just need someone to cut the tube and weld back on straight. Might have them weld on leaf spring mounts too. Thanks, Jess
A quick Google search turned up this. 20 miles away. Give 'em a call. If they can't do it I'm sure they know someone who can. http://www.ringpinionservice.com/services.html
Good idea on Randy's R&P. I can drive past the place on my way home from work. I doubt they do the work, but can likely point me in the right direction. Is Dick Jaklewicz in business doing this? No offense intended, but I'm a little leery taking this to a fellow I have never heard of unless I can see his work. I am not interested in dropping $1k for an Art Morrison housing. Any other recommendations of people/businesses in the area who do this work? Anybody in the Seattle area ever have a rearend narrowed? Thanks again, Jess
Let me toss a wrench into the gearwork here (how's that for a pun?). These are MY personal experiences. First of all, I really doubt Randy's Ring and Pinion does this sort of work. They do setup differentials, gears, sell all kinds of rear end parts and pieces, etc; they are basically a warehouse selling other companies products (I live a mile-as-the crow-flies from there). I bought my axles for my 56 Sedan Delivery there, and their counter people are idiopathic morons; that's all I'll say there. Dick Jaklewicz bought all my 57-64 Olds/Pont parts roughly a year ago; he got a super deal, and I got more room in my shop. He's also getting kinda old, and does't look to be in the best of health, but he's been doing rear ends for years. Narrowing, I don't know, but he does STRAIGHTEN housings, so it would follow he would also narrow them; 20331 Crawford Road Lynnwood, Wa. 98037 (425)672-6918. Last time I needed work done, a single axle needed longer splines after I shortened it for a 57 Olds housing myself. NO ONE locally could/would do it. Jim Green gave me a line on a guy over in Poulsbo, Jantz Engineering 20555 Pugh Road NE Poulsbo, Wa. 98370 (360)598-2773. He has a setup for cutting splines that does't need to be stuck in a lathe, or need to have the axle end locating pivots (like I had cut off). I would use him again, and his price was more than fair. I took the axle to him, and picked it up at his wife's house in Lynnwood (???). He's mostly a 4 X 4 type shop, but he's a for real engineer, thinker, and nice guy. A friend of mines son, who lives in Lake Stevens, "may" be starting to do narrowing. He's mostly into street rod/muscle car/lowrider type cars, but he's really building a following, and has his own very large shop (actually shops) at his home, and 2 or 3 employees. He also works a couple of days a week in Mount Vernon at Pacific Classics overseeing work being done. Kris Norgaard (206)240-4415 is his cell phone. Personally, I would give Jantz a call FIRST!!! I would NOT steer you wrong. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
Great info. I was wondering who splined axles in my area. It looks like Jantz is only about 15 miles from my. Thanks
