    Hey RM,

A long time ago, a friend said that if we drove up to Oregon, he would show us a couple of surf spots that rivaled anything in So Cal. (transplanted So Cal guy) That was a big claim as So Cal has so many great, world class point breaks. (Trestles, Rincon, Malibu, etc.)

Back then, there was no email, so the US Mail kept up this banter for a while. We realized that it was a long drive into uncharted waters and would be a super cold surf session. We had 4 and 5 mil wetsuits, but this portion of the West Coast was “super” cold. Maybe a 4/5 mil wetsuit would not cut it, even with gloves, boots and a head wrap.

So, we never got around to making that 15 hour drive (almost 1600 mile round trip) through the middle of California into Oregon. We probably could have driven up the coast making it a super long vacation like Endless Summer in June or July. But, it would be heading for a different swell direction and possibly no surf to speak of in this coastal area. Plus, it was rockier and had more sharks than So Cal ever had.

We were So Cal hard core surfers. But, these guys up there were super hard core. Thanks for the old photo memory.

    Hey M,
Great title: "RAMBLE ON" is an all time cruising song for those long coastal drives. But, only for Led Zeppelin fans. (not for all music fans.) Many miles were put on the 1965 El Camino with this song playing, as well as other Led Zeppelin songs. It was released in 1969.

Back in our small apartment, it was also a mainstay on our music system. The LP was in full rotation with the other sounds of the times. A big powerful stereo, huge speakers, a couple of giant pillows for seats, what more could you ask for in 1969?
