I guess I kinda got jealous when I saw the Kustom Ranchero thread... So lets get a Kustom El Camino thread going. Post em if you got em.
I dont have a photo but my pops tells the story about when he was 18-19 years old growing up in Wellington Ks. He had an older friend/mentor that had a Kustom 59. His friend let him take the car to the Darrel Starbird show in Wichita and to a show in Kansas City(pops even registered the car in his name). I would have a hard time handing one of my cars to a 19 year old kid. I think the 59 is in the Starbird museum.
The reason I ask is because the El Camino that I picked up a few years ago is wearing some vintage wheels. The car was supposedly parked in 1974 and I would like to clean these things up, maybe get them re-chromed. Check out the skinny white wall snow tires.
Great thread. The thing about 59-60 ElCaminos is they don't need much restyling. They are already pretty wild in their own right.
I see my 59 EL has been posted by OG Lil E,but here are some more info, got it with 47,000 original miles from Mark Moriarity in 2002. Montana Car with no rust ever,6 cyl 3 speed, radio delete All Lacquer Candy Gold HOK and Pearl white that I did in 2010,Tuck and roll white and gold interior .
I really like this 59. You must be really happy to go in your garage and find it there. This is along the lines of what I was hoping to see more of. I think most people just go with the muscle car look, and el caminos arent peoples first choice for a custom.
