    Bruce,

I know I said I would not be bothering you over and over but this information just might be good for you and Teresa to hear.

Let me tell you about the best meal I've ever had. I mean the VERY BEST meal EVER. About 20 year ago I had to have surgery on the inside of my throat. You already know where this is going. There wasn't going to be anything going down that throat for a while. Eventually someone on the staff asked me if I felt like having something besides a feeding tube for lunch. Do you think it took more than a couple of nanoseconds to say yes? Not on your life. So they brought me a small bowl of beef broth. No chunks, just liquid no thicker than water, but brown and tasted like elixir of the gods. I never had anything taste any better ever.

I'm betting that you and/or Teresa and/or many on here have had the same experience. So Someday soon Robert will get to have the same pleasure. When he does give him a pat on the back from me and remind him that I along with a couple of thousand of your closest friends are and have been thinking of and praying for all three of you.

After I had my breathing tube taken out, they asked if I wanted some water... after 5 days with NO water, it was the best drink ever and I don't care for ice cold water.

When I was admitted on Thursday evening I didn't get anything by mouth until Saturday afternoon. Ice tasted good.

  7. Good Monday morning to you all. Teresa sent me a picture yesterday. It was Robert walking down the hall with a walker! Teresa said he had done pretty good. She said he there are times where he can talk to her and make sense, other time he just babbles. The Dr., say it the brain trying to rewire it self. The hospital has given Robert a sitter during the day and at night so Teresa can catch up on her sleep. We are still hoping we can get him transferred back up here to East T.N. Teresa says thank you to you all for your well wishs and me too. Thanks to you all. Bruce.

I was given a walker after being off my feet for 6 days, it was hard just to walk 10 feet. And that had the ****piest walkers that got caught on everything, most had a base for an oxygen bottle on them. Then I got my own small walker... $13.01 co-pay. That was better, used it for 3 days at home and eventually wrapped it around the telephone pole by my house and left it for the junkman.

Bruce, having been in your family's situation I understand Roberts speech, talking and making perfectly good sense one minute and rambling at other times and making no sense at all,to a point the doctors are right with the brain trying to rewire but also the medication he was on to keep him sedated.

While he was in a induced coma anything he dreamed seem like it really happen,or in our case it did, this part will improve.

You guys are very much in my daily prayers. HRP

  14. Bob, I still have mine that has the seat on it .I had to use it when I had my 2 failed ankle surgies.I know my ankles wont last forever. I finally stopped using it because Teresa was yelling you are tearing up my floor boards with that damn thing.LOL. Bruce.

  15. Thanks Danny and to all of you. More good news today .They finally took his trake off of him. They say the hole will heal back up by itself. Thanks again to you all.Bruce.

They have the wheeled ones with brakes now so they roll on the floor. I get to a few nursing homes visiting people and many are using them to get around. They have some that squeezing the handles applies the brake. Some have the brakes on and squeezing the handles releases them.

I hope you can get Robert closer to home for rehabilitation. This has to be very difficult for your wife to deal with too. Maybe more than for Robert at this point. Again, I hope Robert makes a full recovery.

  20. Thor1.I tell her every day when I phone here how many people on the H.A.M.B. care about Robert. Thanks again to you all.Bruce &Teresa.

  21. Engine man I still have the 1st walker you posted from when I had my failed ankle surgery. Robert will be using it if we can get him back home here. Thanks Bruce.

We got my wife's dad one when he moved back here in 2013. All of the old folks where he lives have one. They seem to be easy to use.

My mother had the older style when she lived with us and Deb put tennis balls on the back legs for easier movement and it had wheels on the front where she could shuffle along. Her mom had the one with the four wheels and brakes like the first one Engine Man posted. When she ran out of wind she would sit on it until she got her breathing back. Her Dad had a wheelchair, double amputee, kidney failure, blind in one eye before he p***ed, Diabetes is real bad. Just as bad as Cancer.

  29. Good Wedsday morning to you all. Yesterday Teresa said they had Robert walking further with the aid of a walker.Yesterday they brought him his 1st full lunch{ be cause he did p*** the swallowing test} He ate a little of it but they said he should start eating more each day. Teresa said he did have a melt down yesterday afternoon.Teresa said she was holding his hand and thought he was going to break her hand, so they had to give him a shot to calm him down. He did say he was sorry to his mom later on. Thats the part that scares me down the road if and when he is back on his own. Thanks again to you all. Bruce.

Just remember Bruce, There will be good days and there will be bad days. He will benefit from all of them. As those brain "Highways" knit back together, some of the easier things that we as humans do (and take for granted) will seem like huge mountains. In the end, and with the help of an Occupational The******, He will start to make huge strides in his recovery. See if you can find an OT that specializes in the brain functions and motor skills and Robert will benefit greatly. Godspeed my friend.
