https://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/d/1956-volvo-hot-rod-rat-rod/6563838657.html Saw this on our local Craigs List, interesting, which is another word for WTF? Can't tell if they cut down a sedan to make this. You be the judge
Like it says: '56 Volvo. Note rocker panel flares, cowl, and firewall. Looks like a 144 sedan beginnings, but the 'turtledeck' and trunk seem to have been hand formed. Windshield: Volvo closed car, all the way back to the dash. Wait...Include the doors! All Volvo! This is interesting, for the work involved. One man's dream...but many have thought of it, at least the similarity of the 144 Volvo sedan and the '46-'48 Fords... Read the Craigslist ad, click on the site addy....
I love the older Volvos...I have never seen one rebuilt like that tho...it actually does not look all that bad really... MikeC
that's not a bad looking car. could have been a little more creative with the back half.... needs some body lines or something.
There is some potential there. I'd take the top off, lean the windshield back to being more upright to start with...have to do something about the exhaust.
Well that's... different. I hate to knock anyone's creative efforts but I have to take a p*** on this one.
I don't love it, but I don't hate it either, it's better than some similar builds I've seen. If the front axle centerline was under the radiator, maybe a less bulky firewall kickout and some body lines as was mentioned, it wouldn't actually be too bad. Wonky exhaust isn't helping, either. I like the interior, at the very least, and there were some early roadster builds that used similar split windshields. Hopefully this is the first, learning experience type build from a builder who goes on to do some really creative ****. We need more of that.
I too applaud the effort but it misses the mark they already look close enough to a '46-8 Ford...IMO they should be a dropped, wide tired, hi-po engined, stock bodied euro sedan OR a chopped, dropped, flathead powered mini '46 Ford clone........though it does kinda remind me of a very cool one-off from a mag I read that started off originally as a '41 C.O.E. cowl
