It happens more than it should,in 2012 Randy Nash had a devastating fire under the hood of his beautiful 32 roadster,he originally diagnosed the problem as being caused with ethanol eating the needle and seat but later found a small split in the gas line.

NAPA and O’Reilly’s sell hose that is marked for use with ethanol. I changed fuel lines last year even though I have ethanol free gas delivered to the house

I only run ethanol free premium in my rod. Ethanol is the worst thing that ever happened to gasoline.

I have been forced to use gas containing ethanol when traveling but try to use the ethanol free when available. HRP

Ideally there should be only a short piece of rubber hose between the fuel tank and ch***is mounted steel line, and another between that steel line and the fuel pump. So no pressurized rubber fuel line at all.

I often see the stock steel line from the fuel pump to carburetor cut to accommodate an inline fuel filter plus two lengths (and thus four connections) of rubber hose.

Older engines usually had a gl*** filter bowl plumbed in with steel lines, or alternately pre-65 Fords were fitted with fuel pumps with integral canister fuel filters, which can be fitted to post-65 engines. Therefore no pressurized rubber lines.

good to remind everyone that regular maintenance on stuff like fuel lines, etc is needed

  8. I use the stuff made for new fuel injected cars
no issues, little harder to install on barbs though

Good idea to check for fuel leaks after start up and before driving.

  11. As noted above "fuel injection hose" is available. It is a wee bit tougher to install but it is designed for ethanol use as well as higher pressures. I almost never use regular fuel hose anymore, and most certainly won't for anywhere on the pressure side of things.

My Ford 6V uses a section of hose at each carb and I have for quite a few years now made sure to use the high pressure fuel injection hose. Good quality hose clamps can make a difference too.

Smelled gas very late one night, opened the house door to the garage and the fumes about knocked me over....thought it might be one of the cars looked underneath both but couldn't find anything.......stood up and standing next to the riding mower in the corner could hear a lone drip....rubber hose from the tank had split at the oppos***e end. Over a gallen had leaked out ......a real pain. Still don't now what caused it as we had been in the garage earlier in the eveving and no trace of fumes at all.

I've used Aeroquip line for years with race gas, methanol and lately some E98 in a friend's turbo drag car. It seems to hold up well. I but the black braided covered stuff and use push lok fittings. Never had an issue with it but it is a lot thicker than old school rubber hose, more expensive and bulkier to work with.

That's exactly right, worse there's no consistency from the same brand or supplier. Some stuff is OK, some stuff ... ain't. It's just a ****shoot.

I have to agree with HRP there, if you are actually going to drive the car anywhere meaning anywhere beyond your home area you are going to hit spots where there is no ethanol free gas and positively no ethanol free premium. The only ethanol free gas here locally is of the lawn mower old farm equipment grade.

A guy really needs to be prepared to run the Ethanol gas if he plans to go anywhere beyond the half tank limit.

I have been running E10 since California switched from MTBE.

I use bulk fluroelastomer lines and have had zero issues.

I'm thinking all of the new line that I have bought in the past three or four years is approved for Ethanol. I haven't had trouble with the cars and trucks but have had a hell of a time with my outboard on my sailboat.

I buy only name-brand fuel hose, a good place to start. Avoid the blister pack **** at all costs. I was under my Ford on Saturday, looked at all the fuel hoses while I was there.

  20. Gates Barricade is what you want....you can get it for lower pressure carburetors and higher pressure fuel injection

I haven't used it personally but they make and sell rubber fuel line now that's supposed to be impervious to the new ethanol gas. Vapor guard is the name iirc.

I live near Hartwell Lake and the Marina is just a few miles from my home, they don't have anything but premium gasoline in their pumps.

So when I'm home I know where to purchase ethanol free gas. HRP

Yeah, I didn’t get many miles in last year. I’ll have to prepare to run gas with ethanol & some point.

As far as I know ethanol was introduced without any warnings of backward compatibility, potential for leaks, fires, corrosion, repair bills. True? Not just cars but all gasoline powered equipment. Personally, I'd like to be compensated for the hours I've spent rebuilding carbs, changing hoses.. I won't hold my breath.:)

I’d like to say thanks. HRP. I started a 25 year old, low mileage OT car today, after it being unused for a couple months. I’d just read your post. Hood up, oil checked, lit off. I could smell gas. I found a small drip, which shortly probably would have been a spray at 40 psi. So, it’s not just our hot rods.
