hello! Has any one here done this? any pointers, measurments, etc... we want to give the car the cl***ic "moonglow" stance in a rat rod sort of way. i appreciate it! Dan
What is it with all ofthe 54 Chevy post lately? I blame Jesse James. Regardless I'm sure if you used search you'd come across a wide array of information on chopping cars from that era that could give you pointers on how to do what you are wanting to do and every chop is diffrent, you kind of just have to go with what is in your gut and what looks right to you, not what looks right to everyone else when your doing something like chopping a top or picking a stance. Just becuase the guy next to you like the hot red head with Betty bangs and lepord print pants doesnt mean you have to too....
Keeping the back gl*** is the hard part. Easy solution is to use the top from a earlier car or put the 54 front end on a earlier car. I'd say section it with a stock top for the long low and mean look.
toss the back window and get somethign cool. i suggest a nash back window. they look cool as hell, thats what i was gonna do to mine. JUNIOR
toss that old window and get something cool. nash windows are reallll nice. im trying to sell my 53. god i hate jesse james. JUNIOR
trust me, this car has NOTHING to do with jesse james! This is merely going for a traditional look on a car that I already have. no more, no less.
That may be but rat rod is a hot ****on word around here, so your gonna get some flack. If you don't have it buy Tex Smiths how to chop tops book. Also do a search on here under chop there are many many posts on the subject. Moonglow was a cool ride, not sure if a 54 chevy can pull it off though a little boxy in the rear. Good luck, take pictures as you go...
Get ahold of Dave Para. (Gl***guy) He did a awsome chop on a 54 and kept the stock back window. It is featured in the latest Kustoms Illustrated.
feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't duane steck's moonglow already a 54. Rodders Journal, petersons auto musem, and hotrods online all seem to think so.
http://www.calcl***ics.us/calcl***ics.chopped54.htm also check custom rodder or rod n custom magz. they did a tech awhile back with Bill Hines doing a chop on 53 Belair hard top.
I gave you this link so you can see the progression of a thread that has been answered before. As an example so you can learn just how touchy people can be, without wasting bandwidth on yet another 49-54 chevy chop thread.
