Hello I was clearing out my garage and came across a bunch of early Chevy script valve covers and others with flat tops no script and grommets and a few with 327 rocket fire tags. I looked for part numbers and searched the web looking for an identification guide. I have not been able to find any resources. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks
Early ones have a offset bolt pattern and cover had a top and bottom, unlike like later type that valve cover could be put on in both directions. After that, the stamping will tell rough years. Need pictures to tell more.
script with the top two holes closer together, 1955-mid 59. Script with the holes evenly spaced, mid 59-1967ish. No script, with a rectangular recess in the center, early to late 60s 327. No script, with holes for breathers/pcv, mid 60s and later.
There was also an over the counter flat top, no script or PCV holes that was never used on a production application. P/n was 3910298. I missed out on a new pair, in the GM boxes, at a garage sale one time. A guy saw them before I did, he got the pair for $7.00 !
did you get your question answered? looks like 283 script valve covers, and some 307/350 plain valve covers. Nothing to write home about.
Thank, I did I was also looking for part number locations also . The ones in the boxes are NOS 327 covers
The FW were 15x7, the AG were 15x8. The code K 1 34 I believe denotes; K= kelsey hayes, 1= manufacturing plant, 3= year(1973) and 4= month(april)
I am not seeing any 327 turbofire rocker covers in the pic but if they are not gold plated I would be interested in 2 sets of them.
the boxes don't show up very well in your picture....how about a picture of the label on the end of the box? and the cover inside the box? It's pretty common for someone to replace plain valve covers with fancy ones that came in boxes, and put the old ones into the boxes, then let them sit on a shelf for a few decades. Then when they are discovered by someone else, they are mistaken for new in the box valve covers. The cover in the middle of your pic, with the brackets for holding plastic wire clips, is from the 70s most likely...the other ones, with no clips or small, simple tabs, are the 50s-60s style. Most original small blocks up to the mid 60s had one clip on the driver side to hold the temp gauge wire.
Yeah agreed hard to see in the box, I pulled them out to verify they do have the 327 stickers on them but they are not new. Thanks for the input.
No script, no pcv hole were used on 65 and 66 Studebaker 283s, probably on other non chevy applications as well..
The AG rally is not a 15x8, it's a 15x7. AG was 1968 Corvette only...the 15x8 Corvette rally code is AZ.
It also would stand to reason that mid 60's GMC trucks factory equipped with sbc engines would have no name rocker covers.
The only time new is an issue is if you are going to leave them in the box. Once you bolt them on they are no longer new. I would still be interested in the turbo fires. stickers or no stickers. It is the shape of the cover that is important to me.
I think I see some spot welds...although the pictures are kind of full of glare Nice covers, they'd look great on one of my big blocks.
Those with the corner blunted off are kinda collectable, I think that's done to clear larger diameter power brake boosters.
