Oh... and here's the only t-roadster I've ever considered to be on the same level. Tardel built, so I am biased... but the proportions on this car couldn't be ANY better:
Here's my first hot rod, a '27 T I bought from a guy in LA. I kept it original except for the flames, which Dean Jeffries painted in a few hours. I'm not sure what the frame rails are from but I believe they are not Ford. The front-bottom corner of the body was slight flared to get the body channeled over them. A stock small block Chevy with an original T radiator...it never overheated. I had this car in the 1980's. I always liked the long, low and stretched look of this car.
the 32 shells look out of proportion unchopped from the front in my worthless opinion otherwise, they are hot rod perfection
Hey P, I like old roadsters done well. Yours looks really nice. I agree with your observation, the title roadster does need a different engine. This one is similar, but has a slightly larger motor. It just happens to have a few So Cal custom additions, like the cool nerf bar bumper. I took this film in 1959 at Riverside Raceway. The bright, candy red, roadster was one of the first things we saw at 9 am when we started our pits walk around, prior to the first races. This was a long time ago, but, the roadster may be somewhere in So Cal after all of these years. Jnaki My brother thought we would have looked very cool driving that candy red roadster around the Long Beach/Bixby Knolls cruising areas.
Paul, Thanks for the nice comment. The white t-shirts and Levis were the standard garb, but it was cold that early in the morning. That candy roadster image has stayed with me all of these years and was only discovered after I had the old 16 mm films digitized. Now, I can watch it almost daily. Those were the good old days... Being a teenager without a care in the world, except for wondering where/when I was going to get the next hot dog/coke. Thank you, Junji
I would agree in all aspects except for the grill shell. Should be chopped 2” and lowered to a better line with top of cowl IMHO. I also like the top edge of the windshield on Ed’s T. The radius is a better look than the stock straight edge.
Yup,I do like 27 roadsters,but also chopped some rad infront giving a little lower shell. As for " You know there’s no real way to get comfortable in them",that's more about how race car it really is?, or just a fail to plan seats etc, well=that for me is a standout of good planning an can be done well or badly. Same goes for things like open floorboard/tranny showing or bad design cowel steering, turns me off some ,of other wise cool rod. I can still like a rod with those bad spots,cuz those things can be fixed.
Well hell,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I guess I better not put those fenders on mine. Have been torn between putting them on or not.
I like the reality of the upholstery in that car. Needs to be more attention to how upholstery was back in the day IMHO.
I like it a lot! Even the Flathead. Everything but the frame reminds me a bit of my T. Not comfortable to drive but so much fun you over look that.
Paul and McTim, are you guys 6 foot tall? How cramped is it in your cars? I've been collecting '27 roadster body parts for such a venture, but if there's no way I could ever fit I might as well toss them out.
I am right at 72" and it's a tight fit, fun as all get out though. just make sure you don't put too much padding in the seat back.
I really like so many things about 27 roadster shown up top. Some notes though hit me as odd or out of the know. Not comfortable is the builders falt, not the type of car. Exception is if your just too big for the car an should of started with a bigger car/ "Ts" are smaller then "As" an "Bs" are even bigger. Upholstery was the last thing done,an some just didn't get that far,yet was often done well. If it's not a tractor,open floor is super poor building . My own hot rod 28A was upholsteryed by Nuwt's Custom Cars n Boat back in 1959. I have had to replace it,but did it the very same design as he did then. Only the steering wheel changed in look from 59,an pletes are now yellow . Very comfortable
i like this with the fenders, i would prefer an A or T grill but that is just me. do we know the color scheme? black and white?
