Ryan - Its great that you are so involved in your kid's lives. The years fly by and you'll look back one day and be very glad. Please delete this thread if it doesn't fit here. Thanks for the best place on the internet, hands down. Steve
Hmmm...there are areas of overlap, for sure. Think Eelco and Moon...they were pretty much specialized surplus shops until the WWII fuel stuff ran out, then they started reproducing it! If you look at '50's dragsters and Bonneville cars practically everything in the fuel system was war surplus, and there were even instances of use of Luftwaffe leftover as German factory leftovers filtered into our surplus stores. Combat aviation stuff was pure hotrod in the fifties, and Navy aviation jackets, shirts, and pants, along with M1936 Marine pith helmets, were standard fashion in old dragstrip and Bonneville pictures. WWII planes seem to be fully acceptable in practically any car freak discussion, with no controversy at all. If we were all millionaires on the HAMB, every one of us would have a Mustang or Hellcat in the garage. Guns seem to me to be a separate hobby or cult. I had training with an M1 but wouldn't expect to discuss it on the HAMB. Vehicles...? Is there anyone here who wouldn't have a GPW or quad 50 half track if money flowed in the streets?
more than a few of these tanks made it into hot rods. The bomb release handle, well who doesn't like that?
War stuff is rad... I worry that some dick will try to glamorize swastikas and what not, but I’ll deal with that as it comes.
{Those old oxygen tanks.} Not only made it in to some Hot Rods. But they're good for making garage art too. Ron... Sent from my SM-G920P using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Ryan - Thank you. There's so much that crosses over from surplus. HAMBers, please follow what the boss laid out. How 'bout some gauges? Ron, you're nuts! Love it.
I hope this qualifies. I attended the huge annual EAA Oshkosh Air Adventure Air Show yesterday. Its absolutely breathtaking to see all the WWII fighters, bombers, and training aircraft. The F4U Corsairs are beautiful!! The crew chief grabbed my son and put him in the cockpit of their corsair. What an amazing opportunity. He was smiling ear to ear!! Then she gave him their Corsair challenge coin and some really cool decals from their plane. The F4U Corsairs were representing!
This huge field was filled with P51 Mustangs. When was the last time you saw a P51 traffic jam? Ain't Misbehavin' The Brat III Old Crow Another Old Crow LouII
Loving the B-17 Bombers Doc is beautiful! 1 of 2 flying B29 Super Fortress Bombers, with FiFi being the other.
War birds on the attack I took a ton of photos and videos, but I'd be here all night if I tried to load even half of it. This is the greatest air show in the world. We spent half the day just in the War Bird section, then watched the air show in the afternoon. If you you have not attended this show, you really need to get to it. It's incredible!!
The large size of these machines is realized when you are near them. Just to view pictures of them doesn't drive home the magnitude and visual grace of them.
I picked this 100lbs WW2 practice bomb made into a piggy bank for me and my daughter to put our change into off of face book market place lol
Hi speed-on.The AC that you refer to as a WW1 fighter is actually a Curtis JN3"Jenny".A WW1 trainer.Great bunch of War Bird pics.Got a really rare pair in the F7F Tigercats. They were some real aerial hot rods. Good luck.Have fun.Be safe. Leo
The man who who flew the real Old Crow is a total badass. Clarence 'Bud' Anderson was a squadron mate of Chuck Yeager. He shot down 16 Luftwaffe planes, was a test pilot after the war and was the Commander of the 355th Tactical Fighter Wing in Vietnam. Chuck Yeager says he's the best Fighter Pilot he ever saw. Oh yeah.......he's still going at 96 years old.
Great pics, guys! I never get tired of checking out planes. That's a cool idea for a piggy bank, Mechman_22....
Over 10,000 planes in one place. It may not sound strange until you realize there are about the same number of cars at the largest car shows in the country, and how crowded it can be. Beautiful machines!

Aka"90 knot oil slinger". When I was at Schofield Barracks the 25th ID still yet had a Huey battallion, but its days were definitely numbered. The UH-60s and the guys that took over were often subject to some (mostly) good natured ribbing on the flight line. "Trikes are for Tykes" they'd say. "Skids are for Kids!" was the reply.
I miss the Hueys they were fun to stand on the skid and jump or fast rope. The "crashhawks" as we referred to them were just out the door same as a fixed wing. All were fun rides though.
That is one fantastic photo! I read that at times the sky was black over England when so many bombers were on a mission you couldn't count them. Bob
